Pauline hadn't noticed Mack walk in.

"Why are you here?" she asked coldly, turning to him.

"I had a feeling that my dance partner was in trouble, so I rushed over to save her. But it turns out that I didn't need to. She's so powerful that she solved it by herself," Mack said proudly.

Pauline rolled her eyes. "Don't start. And please leave. I don't want your admirers to bother me tomorrow."

Mack didn't want to leave, but he knew that she had a point. Besides, it wasn't appropriate for him to stay in the training room where all the female ballet dancers were practicing, so he walked out of the room.

As for the female dancers, some of them exchanged glances with one another and looked at Pauline with contempt. They began talking among themselves, in voices loud enough for Pauline to hear.

"Some people are really gold diggers. They can't wait to seduce a rich man."

"Yeah, I don't know if they're here to dance or get a rich husband. The reputation of ballet dancers is smeared by such people."

Their aim had been to embarrass Pauline, but to their surprise, she stared defiantly back at them one by one. Feeling guilty, they immediately looked away, not daring to look at her anymore.

Even the ones who hadn't badmouthed her were frightened by her gaze. Everyone in the training room resumed practicing, not daring to say another word. After that, there was nothing but silence in the training room.

It was late in the afternoon by the time Pauline finished practicing. Since there was no training after that, she decided to go to the hospital to visit her grandfather.

When she walked out of the ballet studio, she happened to run into Mack. She couldn't help but curse herself for her misfortune. How could she run into the person she wanted to avoid so many times?

Mack was casually leaning on a flamboyant Ferrari. As soon as she walked out, he waved at her, as if he had been waiting for her all this time. "Pretty woman, where are you going? Give me ten dollars, I will drive you there."

"Psycho." Pauline bypassed him and tried to hail a taxi.

However, Mack ran after her and pouted. "It's all because of you. It's okay if you don't want to accept my offer, but why are you scolding me?"

"I don't want to talk to you," Pauline retorted as a taxi slowed to a stop in front of her.

She reached out and opened the door to the back seat, but Mack pressed it close and said, "Let me drive you there. Can't you give me a chance?"

"If you don't leave me alone, I will talk to our leader tomorrow about changing my dance partner," she said curtly. The look in her eyes told Mack that she was serious, so he immediately let go of her.

Pauline couldn't help but let out a heavy sigh once she got into the cab. As if she didn't already have enough problems in her life, she had to deal with Mack as well. When she arrived at the hospital, she went straight to her grandfather's ward and found him sleeping peacefully. Mary was asleep too, but hearing the sound of the door open, s

f being behind this.

However, Pauline was just as confused. After thinking about it for a moment, she looked questioningly at Mack.

Logically speaking, he was the only dancer at their ballet company who had enough influence to pull off such a thing.

Sure enough, when Mack met her gaze, he winked at her.

Pauline immediately turned away, feeling a trace of guilt.

After the training in the morning, everyone rushed to the dressing room. Pauline opened her cabinet and saw several missed calls on her phone, all of which were from Peter.

She wondered what tricks he was trying to play this time, but the truth was, she had no interest in any of it.

She was just about to block his number when her phone rang again.

"Peter, are you insane?" she yelled in frustration as soon as the line was connected. However, hearing her fierce questioning only brought a smile to Peter's face.

There was a hint of joy in his voice as he said, "Pauline, don't say that. I'm calling you because I miss you. Do you have time to have a meal with me?"

"I'm busy," Pauline refused directly. She couldn't believe that Peter had the nerve to ask her out for a meal after everything he had done.

Of course, as usual, Peter knew just how to press her buttons. "Really? What if Grandpa finds out that we didn't get married that day? Or what if that newspaper article about you mysteriously appears in his ward? He wouldn't be able to bear such a blow in his condition, right?"

"Peter Gu! You're a despicable man," Pauline spat. Her eyes were red, and she was gripping the door of the cabinet so tightly that her knuckles turned white. "Grandpa is too weak to bear such torture. Don't cross the line!"

"If I'm crossing the line, it's only because you forced me!" Peter answered angrily. Then, he continued, "If Edmund didn't push me into a corner, I wouldn't... Never mind. Just tell me whether you'll meet me or not.

But think it over before you answer. It's a matter of life or death for your grandfather."
