Leena froze. What were they doing here?

The couple, however, didn't notice Leena's and Carlson's presences. They were too engrossed in the ring the saleslady was showing them. Alina, in particular, was practically drooling over it, her eyes gleaming with greed. Seeing how bad Alina wanted it, the saleslady took the opportunity to talk about the ring's qualities. She especially stressed how this ring was ultimately a status symbol. Alina was absolutely enchanted, and Miguel seemed just to be happy that she was happy.

Leena stared at them dumbfoundedly. 'Did they decide to get married right after our breakup?' Alina had been so worried about tying the knot with some nobody, and yet, here they were. Did he love her so much he was willing to risk his future and overlook how this woman treated him in the past? 'What about all the things I did for him?' she thought bitterly.

Leena had convinced herself she wasn't jealous. It was true that she wanted to end things with Miguel after what he did to her, but she couldn't help but feel sad at the sight of her ex-lover doting over another girl.

With a resigned sigh, she lowered her head and was about to leave the jewelry shop. She didn't want to cause a stir with Miguel and Alina. However, Carlson blocked her way and smiled at her mischievously. "Shouldn't you cap off your shopping spree with a ring?"

Leena frowned at him. "What're you talking about?"

His eyes gleamed deviously. Leena had a bad feeling about this... Just then, the saleslady announced the price of the enchanting ring. "One million and five hundred eighty thousand." Silently, Miguel put the diamond ring back down on the counter. "Well, we'll come back for it later."

Alina's expression darkened. While she didn't say anything, feelings of disappointment emanated from her tangibly.

It was hard to miss her change in attitude. Miguel placed his hand on her waist gently. "We are not in a hurry to get married," he said soothingly. "Didn't we agree to come here today just to check?"

"Is a one-carat diamond ring too expensive for you?" Alina pouted.

Miguel pleaded, "Alina, I've only just started my own business. Even if I am working in my brother's company, I've only been an intern for less than two months."

Biting her lower lip, Alina nodded reluctantly. "Fine, as long as you don't make me settle with that platinum carved ring you gave me when we graduated from college."

"I won't!" Miguel promised, giving Alina's hand a little squeeze.

Just as they were about to leave the store, Carlson suddenly strode over to the saleslady and announced loudly, "Miss, consider that ring sold!"

Leena choked. What the hell was he up to now?

The couple was also taken aback at his sudden dramatic entrance. Plastering a fake smile on her face, Alina greeted him. "Carlson, what a coincidence! Twice in one day?"

He winked at her. "Happy to run into you again like this, Alina. Now, if you'll excuse me." Then, he turned around to face the saleslady. Ceremoniously whipping out his credit card, he said, "Please use this to pay for it."

Leena rushed over to him and tugged at his arm. "What do you think you are doing?"

Carlson beamed at her but said nothing. Once the saleslady ran the card and settled the bill, he plucked the ring from the counter and took Leena's hand. "Dearest Leena, will you wear this ring for me?"

Stupefied, Leena was at a loss for words. For a moment, she just stared at him in shock. "Wh-what are you doing? Stop this!" she stuttered.

"Don't worry, I don't mean anything by it," Carlson said with a chuckle. "I just wanted to prove to you that I'm a very successful man who can give you the world. You can buy this building for all I care, and I'd still gladly pay for it."

Leena was seething with rage by then. "I didn't say I'd marry you, nor did I agree to any of your requests! The things you bought for me should be considered your losses."

"It doesn't matter," Carlson said with an indifferent shrug. "Whatever w

ill make you happy. Besides, that was just a small amount anyway."

"You... You're insane!" She yelled, clenching her fists.

Alina couldn't stand it anymore. She pulled away from Miguel's touch and stormed off. Miguel, on the other hand, was too stunned to do anything. Just as Alina reached the doors to the shop, she bumped into Carlson's secretary, who had just entered. "Mr. Carlson, I've called a truck to pick up the things you bought for Miss Yang," he reported curtly. Alina, fuming by now, pushed him aside rudely. Sneering, she walked out without another word.

"Hey!" Miguel called after her. "Alina, wait up!" He ran after her, secretly cursing Carlson.

Watching them, Carlson smiled with satisfaction. "Oh, it's going to be a huge fight for them."

"You did this on purpose?!" Leena spat in disbelief.

"And what if I did?" Carlson shot her an indifferent glance, as though he had not a care in the world. Leena cursed him and was just about to run after the couple when Carlson grabbed her by the arm. "What the hell are you doing? What makes you think you're in any position to nose around in their business?"

"I just don't want to be near you!" she screamed. This whole time, the saleslady had been watching this scene unfold before her. Not knowing what to do, she retreated to the stockroom awkwardly.

Carlson tightened his grip on her arm. Through gritted teeth, he hissed, "Miss Yang, I've done so much for you today. I bought you all those things. Are you sure you want to leave?"

"Carlson, you volunteered to buy all those things. I didn't ask you!" Leena cried.

"Well, how else does one catch fish without bait? Miss Yang, you know you can't run away. You owe me so much now."

With a sneer, she yanked her arm out of his hand and said, "Mr. Carlson, you can't hurt me."

Angry, he pointed towards the direction Miguel and Alina had run off to. "You're willing to sacrifice everything for that guy. What did he ever do for you? Does he even see you? You have your own life to live. Why do you keep on chasing after him?"

Leena fell silent. Carlson's words seemed to have struck a chord with her. Carlson continued, "Miss Yang, I'm saying this as a friend: I hope you think things through first."

Leena smiled at him bitterly. "And as Miguel's friend, I just want him to think things through, too." Without waiting for a reply, she hurried out of the shop.

Carlson threw up his hands in defeat. "What a stupid woman!" he said exasperatedly. "She can't see her own value, yet she wants him to!"

It didn't take long for Leena to find Miguel and Alina. They were quarreling rather noisily. She heard Alina say, "Miguel, a lot of men are willing to give me the world, yet I chose you. I thought you still loved me, yet you won't even give me a simple ring! How would I know you really love me? A man who doesn't buy things for a woman certainly doesn't love her! It's just a diamond ring, about one million. It's the first time I've asked you for something, yet you had the gall to deny me. You promised me you'd buy me a diamond ring. Years later, and still nothing! Do you expect me to believe you can't afford it? Ridiculous! I know how rich you are. This is just loose change for you!"

Miguel took a deep breath to calm himself down. "Alina, I'm not Dylan Chen," he started to say in a calculated voice. "I'm not the rich guy you think I am. Yes, my family is rich, but that is all my father's money. Just give me a year and a half. I'll give you all the things you want then. It's not that I don't want to buy the ring for you. I just need more time. Please!"

Alina scoffed. "Forget it. I don't know why I decided to even give you the light of day. I knew you changed. You don't love me anymore! Didn't you see how Carlson bought it for Leena, just like that? Yet you can't even do the same for me!"

"Why are you so greedy?" Miguel was fuming, his patience running thin. "I hate to break it to you, but it's not only you who felt like everything's changed!"
