"People tend to seek benefits and avoid trouble. Dylan, you know well about the Fang and Xue families, I think you have done a thorough investigation." Ashley raised an eyebrow in suspicion. "I think you are aware of my past and how my relationship with Francis ended. I want to live a simple life and have no intention of getting involved in their mess."

Dylan knitted his brows and studied her face. His gaze seemed to pierce through the depths of the soul, unraveling her true self that she'd been trying hard to conceal. "Ashley, you are not avoiding trouble. You are just a coward." He smiled scornfully. "All you want to do is escape from problems, not fight back. It's time you stand up for yourself."

Ashley closed her eyes and blew out a loud breath. "Dylan, have you come to attend the ceremony or stir up trouble?"

A wicked smile crept onto Dylan's face. "Oh, come on, Ashley! Why could I cause trouble? I'm a kind soul, you know?" he joked.

The sudden applause from the crowd caught Ashley's attention. She turned around and realized that the ceremony had ended. Although Dylan's words irked her, she couldn't help but admire his acute insight.

Dylan leaned closer to Ashley as he continued to clap along with the crowd. "Even if you don't want to get back with Francis, you can use this opportunity to teach them a lesson. You could lure him with your beauty and dump him when he falls for you. That would give him a taste of his own medicine."

Ashley's eyes widened.

"You got dressed up and came to the engagement party to embarrass the couple, right? But it didn't cause any harm to them. Don't you think that my plan is more exciting than yours?" Dylan waggled his eyebrows playfully. Ashley gulped as the suggestion seemed tempting. Her mind began to waver, but she shook her head and quickly brushed the thought away.

"I don't have anything to do with Francis. We were in love once, but everything has ended between us. I don't want to complicate things." Ashley glanced at the couple; they were looking happy together. Her stomach clenched with jealousy, but she fought hard to remain calm.

"You have to take risks in life, Ashley." Dylan's eyes were dazzling with excitement. "How can you achieve your goals if you aren't ready to take risks? Stop playing safe. Think about what they have done to you. The betrayal killed your mother; you were left with nothing. You have to make them pay the price, Ashley. Make them understand that they can't get away with everything."

Ashley's heart leaped to her throat as she saw the couple walk towards her.

"I can help you if you want. Make up your mind."

Ashley nodded.

"Ashley, you don't look happy." Sheila rested her head on Francis' chest and sneered.

Dylan retreated with a smile. His job was done.

"Yeah, Sheila. I'm worried about you." Ashley shook her head, smiling sadly. "Your relationship is like a roller coaster ride; one moment you are up, and the next moment you plummet down with a heavy fall. I just hope you make it to the end. Otherwise, all your plans will go waste."

"That's enough." Sheila's face darkened. "Francis and I are engaged now. We will get married soon. You will never have the chance to be with him."

"Really? Are you sure about that?" Ashley smirked and leaned closer to Francis.

She knew that Francis hadn't taken his eyes off her ever since she stepped out of the car. The man realized that Ashley had changed; she looked mysterious, which seemed to draw him towards her. Francis knew that he shouldn't be looking at Ashley when he was going to marry Sheila. However, he couldn't control himself. The woman had woken up strange emotions in his heart that were beyond his comprehension.

Francis gulped and looked away. He feared that Ashley had read his mind.

"What are you doing, Ashley?" Sheila quickly stepped in front of Francis, preventing Ashley from getting near her fiance.

Her angry voice seemed to draw everyone's attention. The guests unanimously turned to look at her.

"I didn't do anything." Ashley lifted her hands innocently.

Samuel had anticipated this situation. Sheila's reckless behavior worried him; he couldn't watch his daughter make a fool of herself in front of everyone. He grabbed Ashley's hand and took her away before Sheila could cause further damage.

"Come here, Ashley. I want to introduce you to some people."

Ashley stole a quick glance at Francis and caught him staring at her. She looked away and silently followed Samuel.

Dylan wasn't satisfied as what he was expecting didn't happen. He flashed a smile and patted Francis' shoulder. "Francis, you are a lucky guy. Two beauties are fighting for you."

His gaze flitted to Sheila. A subtle blush painted her cheeks as she dropped her gaze to the ground.

"I thought you'd be busy and wouldn't come today,"

Francis said.

"Yeah, I was. But how can I miss your engagement?" Dylan grinned and looked at Sheila. "Your fiancee is beautiful. It's a pity that I didn't meet her earlier. But I'm glad that I met Ashley. She looks gorgeous."

The smile on Sheila's face vanished in an instant. She couldn't believe that Dylan, the heart-throb of millions of girls, praised Ashley. "My sister might be pretty, but she doesn't have a

good personality."

Dylan pursed his lips, feigning surprise. "Really? What's wrong with her?"

"Nothing." Francis stopped Sheila and looked at Dylan. "I saw you talking with Ashley. What do you think of her?"

Dylan bit his lip to suppress his giggle. He enjoyed watching Francis' reaction. As expected, the man had been watching Ashley the entire time. He was curious to find out more about his ex-wife.

"Don't even ask me about it, Francis. She seemed uninterested and didn't want to talk with me." Dylan shook his head sadly.

Before Sheila had the chance to speak, Dylan continued, "She told me that there is no place for anyone else in her heart except for you."

Francis couldn't hide his shock anymore.

Sheila's jaw dropped in shock. Her gaze shifted between Dylan and Francis.

Dylan was an effortless actor. "I'm a good-looking guy; women practically throw themselves at me, but that girl is different, Francis. I'm good at playing the lyre, chess, calligraphy, painting, archery, what not? I can't believe that the woman hasn't bothered to cast a glance at me. She has broken my heart."

Dylan didn't feel guilty for wreaking havoc in their lives; he believed that they deserved it for destroying Ashley's happiness.

Sheila's heart sank; she believed that her plans had worked. But it seemed that Ashley wanted to steal Francis away.

A thousand thoughts inhabited Francis' mind. He shook his head and thought to himself, 'No, I can't trust Ashley. She cheated on me.'

He looked at Ashley; the woman was chatting with a few people.

Most of the people attending the wedding ceremony had a messy personal life, but they put on a happy front to flaunt their success. Money and fame were more important to them than emotional connect.

Some of the guests were Ashley's acquaintances whom she hadn't met in ages. One such girl was June Guan. She used to play with Ashley when they were little. But they eventually drifted apart because Ashley became reclusive; she had stopped playing with her. The two hadn't met since then.

June looked at Ashley in shock before she walked up to her and held her arm. "Ashley, look at you. You've turned into a beautiful woman."

Ashley was happy to catch up with an old friend. "How have you been, June?"

"I'm good. I haven't seen you in years, Ashley. I miss you so much."

"I miss you too."

Ashley was exhausted after talking to the guests and answering their boring questions. She grabbed a bottle of drink and went up to Dylan, who was leaning against a tree in a corner.

"Why are you here?"

"I didn't want to steal Francis' thunder. People will gather around me if they know that I'm here." He smirked.

Ashley rolled her eyes. "Oh, really? You have been here for a long time. I didn't see anyone come near you. I don't think people have noticed you."

Dylan's mouth popped open in shock. He stared at Ashley with wide eyes.

"You were right next to me when Sheila spoke to me. I guess people must have noticed you, but they probably don't care.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you don't get the attention you need."

She chuckled.

"Shut up!" Dylan grunted.

Ashley shook her head and leaned against a tree beside him.

Dylan looked at her as a sudden idea occurred to him. "Give me your phone."

"For what?" She frowned.

"I'm going to help you take the first step."

Dylan took Ashley's phone and dialed his number to save her contact information before scrolling through her phonebook. He found Francis' number and quickly typed a message. "I'll be waiting for you at the rockery. I hope you'll come to see me."

Ashley grabbed her phone; she was shocked to see the message he had sent. Before she could reprimand him for interfering in her life, Dylan spoke.

"I can assure you that Francis would come to see you. But I want you to look frail in front of him. If you don't know what to say, just put on a sad face. Do you understand?"

"Yes. Got it!" She nodded.

"Don't be aggressive, and most importantly, don't do anything stupid. Your purpose is to confuse Francis—make him question his decision. Don't kiss him or hug him, do you understand? Play hard to get."

Ashley listened to his every word and nodded. "Yes. I understand."

"Ashley, this is a great opportunity. I'm sure you'll thank me later." Dylan winked and walked towards the crowd.

However, Ashley was confused. She didn't know if she was doing the right. Everything seemed complicated.

She looked at the couple; they seemed happy together. Ashley couldn't help but wonder what might happen to Sheila if she stole Francis away from her. How would their story end?

The sudden commotion snapped Ashley out of her reverie. A crowd of people swarmed around Dylan; they were excited to see him.

Dylan turned around and looked at Ashley as if to remind her that he was right.

Ashley couldn't help but smile in return. She knew that people would surround him, but the man's arrogance irked her, and she just wanted to upset him.

Meanwhile, Francis checked his phone and saw Ashley's message. He raked his eyes across the place and finally caught her standing in a corner. Their eyes locked for a second before Ashley turned around and walked towards the rockery.
