Looking at Matthew, who was pretending to be reading his documents diligently, Harper could not help but feel amused. She put a bowl of lotus seeds porridge before him and said in a soft voice, "This is your favorite lotus seeds porridge. Have a taste, Matthew."

"I'm busy reviewing the documents," Matthew said without enough confidence. He had misunderstood Harper. When he remembered how childish and sensitive he had been, making trouble out of nothing, he wished he could dig a hole in the ground and hide his head there. He couldn't forgive himself for appearing to be so insecure.

"Darling," Harper said, stretching her hand to turn the paper in Matthew's hand. "But you have this paper upside down."

Matthew blushed immediately. He could not continue to pretend to be serious anymore. Silently, he took the bowl and ate the lotus seeds porridge. Harper was so perceptive and clever that he found all his pretenses were useless in front of her. He realized it was better to face her frankly.

"The poison in Felix's body is killing him, isn't it?" Harper said flatly, while sorting out the messy paperwork for Matthew, as if she had already forgotten the unpleasant misunderstanding between them earlier.

Matthew put down the empty bowl and wiped his mouth. He replied apathetically, "It has nothing to do with us."

"But if he dies as Hoffman wishes, Hoffman will achieve his goal. Based on what I know of Her Majesty, she won't easily let us off the hook. I'm afraid she will find a way to cast suspicion on us." With no warning at all, Harper conjured up a cake with a red candle in the middle of it. She said cheerfully, "Happy birthday, darling."

Matthew was stunned, as if he didn't r

say it. I will only wait patiently until you tell me of your own accord. But please believe that I'll still be with you no matter how long it will take."

Harper fell silent. After all, her story was totally unbelievable even to her, let alone the conservative Matthew. She was afraid that he wouldn't want to keep her as she told him the truth, and that was a thought she couldn't bear.

"It doesn't matter if you don't want to talk about it." Seeing that Harper was silent, Matthew understood that she didn't want to tell him her real identity, although he had been guessing. He knew that she had been looking for the way back home. He felt that once she found her way back home, he would lose her. That was why he couldn't control himself when she said that she wasn't ready for a baby.

"Matthew, do you think there are ghosts in the world?" Harper asked in a low voice, after a long hesitation.

"I don't believe so."

With a wry smile, Harper said, "See? I can't believe what happened myself. I couldn't expect you to believe it. I didn't believe in past life myself, but I have to believe it after I experienced it myself."
