"I'm so sorry for what happened." Jake sat on the couch next to me then tried to hold me for another embrace, but I refused. I don't deserve any comfort right now. I deserved it. I was precisely how Damon described me—selfish and immature.

Luke offered a ride when he found me like a crybaby in my office. It was embarrassing, but I couldn't do anything to take away the pain. He was now sitting quietly in my living room, but he called Jake and asked him to come. He probably didn't know what to do with me.

"I've lost him forever now." I sniffed, then wiped my nose with a napkin.

"Just what am I going to do with you?" Jake sighed in frustration. "I guess I'm staying here tonight."

I cried even more. "I'm getting him back, " I declared.

"What?" Luke spoke this time. "Are you out of your mind?"

"Yes, she is. She's out of her mind, " Jake agreed. "And then what? What will happen if you take him back? He's already engaged."

"He doesn't love her, " I uttered.

"Oh God, I'm so out of here." Luke breathed out.

"And you think he still loves you?" Jake asked.

"I know it's not my place to say anything, but why stick up to the guy who hurt you? Remember what he did to you first, " Jake said. "Maybe you need an ice pack, so you could cool yourself, alright? Or maybe some food, you didn't eat the entire day, " he suggested, slapping his hands on his lap. He shook his head, then he walked to the kitchen.

I sobbed one more time, ducking my face in my palms.

"Nikki, forget about him, okay?" Luke reached out for my shoulder.

"But I love him."

"Yes, but if you stay like this, it would be difficult for you. I shouldn't have asked you to attend that meeting."

"It's okay. It's my job, I'm sorry." I looked at him this time. "I'm sorry that you had to see me like that and leave the office early."

"It's alright. I've seen worse." Luke patted my shoulder gently. "I am a very understanding individual."

I couldn't help but smile. Then Jake came back holding a tray and placed it on the center table. "I found a sandwich and beer and nothing else. Seriously, Nikki, you need to fill it up."

"Beer?" Luke grabbed the beer can. "Two girls living in an apartment alone have a beer in their fridge. Interesting."

"It's Jake's." I sniffed.

Jake took a big bite of his sandwich. "I plan to sleep here twice a week, Luke. I need that beer."

"You two have to let me join in." Luke pulled the lid of the can, then gulped the beer straight down.

"She lives with Claire, so that's not going to happen."

I couldn't help but chuckle. For the next couple of minutes, I just watched the two of them talked senselessly. Fortunately, I didn't have to feel alone tonight.

"Where were you? Do you know what time it is? You went to your mistress, didn't you?"

Bianca was standing by the stairs with her arms across her chest. This wasn't new to me. It was exactly how I remembered her fuming expression whenever I was coming home late. In the past, it would take her days to forgive me, but right now, I grew ti

bout that, I'm not going to bother her again."

He frowned. "You're not going to take her back or something?"

"Nikki was crying all night, yeah. I couldn't leave her. I'm so worried. You are right, I'm worried."

All night? Were they living together? I gave him a confused look.

"Oh!" He clasped his hands. "Don't get it wrong. I don't live with her, but last night wasn't a good time to leave her alone."

I clenched my fists under the table. What was the extent of their relationship? It was not even different from living together, and why was she crying all night? Did I really bother her that much? Everything I told her was nothing to her?

"You don't mind if I ask, right?"

"Yes, of course."

"What do you really want to tell me? Tell me. I don't intend to bother your relationship with her."

He frowned, looking completely confused. "You're not bothering our relationship. No."

"No?" I raised an eyebrow. "You don't mind if I'm talking to your girlfriend?"

"What? No. We're very close, but she's not my girlfriend. I think you are misunderstanding things here."

"Then why—"

"I like women, but I prefer flowers, too, " he said straightforwardly, making me dumbfounded.

"Oh." That was a surprise. "I didn't realize that, I'm sorry."

"It's okay. People misunderstand us these days."

"I can't imagine why not, " I admitted. "You are close to her."

He let out a rich laugh. "Well, there's the reason why I called you here."

"I'm listening."

"I don't have the right to get in between you and Nikki, but I really think you should talk to her."

"I'm getting married to my ex-wife again. I'm sure you already know that."

"I know, and that's the big problem."

"And Nikki doesn't want me."

"Talk to her, " he advised. "It is not every day I do things like this, and I think this is completely stupid too, but I care for Nikki. I know you do, too. You still love her, don't you?" He seemed so sure, but he was not wrong. I nodded, acknowledging his speculation.

"I do. I still love her."
