New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

Alexander ran his eyes from the concrete floor to the top edge of the building through the tinted window of his black BMW. The exterior of the glass surfaces made the frontage appear as though the entire building had itself constructed with the glass.

Letting out a nervous sigh, he got out of the car as his driver held the door open for him. His bodyguards in formal attire escorted him to the building. His tall, well-built personality, his handsome face, and the powerful aura emanating from him as he walked briskly with his jean-clad long legs attracted attention. He could sense all the eyes on him watching with awe, without even glancing at them.

As the doors to the elevator closed, Alexander looked at his reflection in the mirror-like steel walls. His face was impassive, not disclosing the true feelings he was experiencing inside. The doors opened with a ding as they reached the top floor of the building.

"All set, the Doctors need your signature on these papers to proceed, " his right-hand man, Sebastian Romano said, giving him the papers as soon as Alexander stepped out of the elevator. The forty-plus male Doctor with a mixture of brown and gray hair shook his hands and informed him about the condition of Mariana.

Alexander signed the papers and nodded, giving the Doctor his permission to proceed with the operation.

An hour had passed since he signed the papers. The wait was killing what little patience left in him.

Alexander was tired of pacing and watching the doctors and nurses running in their blue uniforms. He looked down from the tinted glass window, watching the train and other different vehicles, and the pedestrians on the busy road of George Street. Even though the September weather in Sydney was warm and pleasant, the air-conditioning running in the building made him feel cold.

He could bet that he was getting goosebumps on his arms hidden under the long-sleeved black shirt he wore. But he knew it had nothing to do with the air-conditioning. The worry was making him nervous. It was one of the best maternity hospitals in Sydney, yet he couldn't stop himself from worrying.

Alexander sensed Sebastian's presence even before the reflection of his tall frame appeared on the glass. He held two disposable coffee cups in his hands and offered one to Alexander. Sipping the coffee, Alexander wished he could substitute it with whiskey or scotch.

"You should have let Felicity come with you. You look like shit, worrying your ass off. What made you think that you could handle the situation alone?" Sebastian asked, eyeing his tired face. Though Alexander had kept his face void of any emotion, Sebastian could see the hidden worry marring his face. His green eyes looked anxious and shoulder too stiff.

Dressed in black jeans and a black shirt, Alexander looked nothing like the successful businessman he was. No one would believe that he's one of the richest men in the world. Judging by the simple attire and the untucked shirt, Sebastian knew that he'd left home in a hurry.

"I would rather not see her in the hospital, and you know it, Romano, " Alexander said. His beautiful, beloved wife Felicity was his life. She had almost died during their son's birth three years ago. Sitting next to her bed, holding her hand, waiting for her to regain consciousness, those critical hours spent in the hospital room were Alexander's worst nightmare.

Since then, just the thought of seeing his Felicity in the hospital scared him to death. He would rather die than experiencing that heartache again.

He missed having her next to him. He knew that her presence alone could wipe out all his worries. Her smile was enough to brighten his world. But he would never bring her to the hospital.

Alexander thought he could handle the situation alone. It couldn't be that terrifying since the woman behind that closed door was not his Felicity. But he was wrong. Mariana suffering alone behind that door didn't make him worry any less. In fact, it made him sad that she was alone and had no one to support her.

"What if something goes wrong and Anna wouldn't make it?" Alexander asked, worried. Sebastian smiled in reassurance. "She'll be fine. Didn't you hear the Doctor say that it's going to be a normal delivery?" Sebastian asked in return. "Why are they taking so long then?" Alexander asked, running his fingers through his raven black hair in frustration.

"They are the Doctors, and they know what they are doing. You need to relax, Boss. You're worrying too much, " Sebastian said, and they both whipped their head towards the door as they heard the cry, a cry of a newborn baby.

"Ah, finally!" Alexander exclaimed, rushing to the door. The door opened, and the Doctor walked out of the operation theatre wiping the sweat on his forehead. "Congratulations, Mr. Hunter. The baby girl is perfectly healthy. Her mother has passed out for now, but she should be fine when she wakes up. All went well, I must say, " said the Doctor, taking off his glasses.

Alexander beamed, thanking the Doctor. "That's a relief, Doctor. Can I see the baby?" Excitement precisely printed on his face, he couldn't stop grinning. The Doctor informed that it would take a few more minutes before he could see the baby as the baby had to go through the cleaning process.

They agreed to spend those minutes discussing the do's and Don'ts regarding the health of the mother and the baby. After finishing his talk with the Doctor, Alexander told Sebastian to settle the bill and to make sure to keep everything under wraps about the baby. No one should know that Mariana had a baby, nor it's safe to let anyone know that Alexander Hunter was the legal guardian of the baby. Either way, the baby's life would end up being subjected to danger.

With a single nod, Sebastian left to take care of the billing formalities.

Alexander had enemies surrounding him in disguise. He ordered his security team to stay on high alert.

When the nurse brought the baby to him, he couldn't wait to take her in his arms. He kissed the baby's cheeks and forehead. The baby was so beautiful that he couldn't take his eyes off. The little bundle of joy decided to open her eyes, and his heart melted at the sight of the most beautiful eyes. Tears of joy filled his eyes.

"Goodness! You're beautiful, little one, and an exact replica of your father, " he said, kissing both of her eyelids. "Let's go and meet your Mama, shall we?"

He looked at one of his trusted bodyguards signalling him to hold the baby for a while. Carefully, he placed the baby into his arms and walked in.

Alexander felt nauseous as his eyes landed on the sleeping form of Mariana, clad in hospital white gown. All he could see was Felicity's feeble body lying on the bed, struggling to breathe, and Alexander's heart jumped into his throat.

He was frightened to the point where he felt his throat tightening. Shaking his head to get out of that terrifying illusion, he looked away from the bed and held on to the door for support.

After taking deep breaths several times, he moved his feet towards the bed, measuring his footsteps on the wooden ceramic tiles. His eyes wandered restlessly around the room, as they took in the sight of the white bedspread and the pillows, and the doors to the bathroom, cabinets, the table beside her bed, and a single chair next to it, everything was gray coloured.

At last, Alexander looked at Mariana. She was still asleep and half of her face covered with the strands of her wet brunette hair. He brushed away a few stray hairs from her face, tucking it behind her ear and cupped her cheek with his palm. He saw her eyelids fluttering, and she opened her eyes. He looked at her with nothing but pure affection.

"How are you feeling, Anna?" Alexander asked, and she gave him a faint smile in reply. She looked too tired, and her pale skin looked paler than usual. He took one of her hands resting on her stomach into his hand,

stroking it affectionately as in to boost her energy.

"Do you want to meet your daughter? She's beautiful, Anna. Thank you so much for bringing her into this world. Shall I bring her in?" Alexander asked, waiting for her to reply. Mariana smiled at his warm, welcoming eyes. But her reply made his smile vanish from his face.

"No, Xander. I don't want to see her. I've kept my promise. Now it's your turn to keep yours. Please take her away from my life."

He couldn't believe what she's saying. Mariana sighed sadly at his shocked expression. "Don't look so shocked, Xander. You very well knew I never wanted this baby. You didn't let me have an abortion. I didn't have any choice but to give birth to her. Now she's all yours. You'll be her sole legal guardian. I'm ready to hand over her full custody to you as I promised."

Alexander shook his head in disbelief and disappointment. "How can you be so heartless, Anna? She's your own flesh and blood. You can't abandon her just like that."

His voice was soft and pleading as he begged, but she looked away, refusing to meet eyes. "I want to move on with my life, Xander. You can't force me to be a part of her life. You wanted her, and you get to keep her. I want nothing to do with her. I don't want anything in my life that reminds me of her father. Let me go, Xander."

"She needs her mother, Anna. Can't you stay for at least two months?" He asked, voice filled with desperation. She smiled sadly as her brown eyes turned misty and couldn't stop her tears from escaping her eyelids.

"Don't worry, Xander. I'm sure your wife will raise her like her own. My daughter can't get a better mother than your wife. I know my best friend, Xander. She'll love her to the moon and back. I trust you and Felicity with my daughter's life." The trust lacing her tone made Alexander smile in appreciation. He squeezed her hand, and with a heavy heart, he asked, "Where'll you go, Anna? Is there anything I can do to make your life better?"

"I'm grateful to you and Felicity for what you've done for me. I don't need anything else. I'm going home to my parents. Just keep your promise, Xander. Give her a nice life, " Mariana said, and her determined tone confirmed that she'd made her decision.

Alexander agreed and nodded in understanding. He took out his phone and dialed a number while Mariana watched him ordering someone on the phone to bring the papers.

"My legal team is here. You'll have to sign some papers before you go, Anna, " he said, and she agreed.

Within a few seconds, two men dressed in a black suit and white shirt entered her room and presented some papers for her to sign. Mariana scribbled her signatures wherever they asked her to sign, without bothering to read.

"You have my word, Anna. I'll protect her with my life. She's my responsibility now." Alexander said with assurance. He looked thoughtful for a moment before asking her once again. "Sure, Anna, you don't want to meet her? Don't you want to see your daughter once?"

"I'm her mother, Xander. And I know that the moment I see her, I'll be compelled to change my decision. I don't want that. Let me move on, Xander. Please." Her voice quivered and turned into a whisper at the end. He cupped her face in his palms, bent his head, and kissed her on the forehead.

"Thank you for everything, Anna. I've settled the bill already. You're free to go whenever you're ready. Two of my bodyguards will accompany you until you reach home safely. Just remember, if you ever need anything in life I'm just a phone call away."

With that promise made, Alexander walked out of her room and out of her life.

After instructing Sebastian to personally take care of Mariana's security until she reaches home safely, Alexander took the baby into his arms. His heart filled with warmth as the baby's lips twitched in a tiny smile.

"You're mine now, my little angel. I'm naming you as Hera. Because that's the name chosen for you by my Darling wife from the moment we learned that the baby in Mariana's womb is a girl. You know, Hera is a Greek Goddess. And the name is just perfect for you. You're beautiful like a Goddess. My daughter, Hera Hunter."

He kissed her tiny lips. He remembered the day when Mariana told him about her pregnancy. He begged her to keep the baby when she wanted to abort it. He'd promised her that day, if she agrees to give birth to the baby, then he'd take all the responsibility of the baby, and she'd be free to walk out.

He bought a house for her in another country and had paid a large amount of money for the security team he'd hired for her safety. The Doctor and the nurses received a lump sum too, and had sworn to secrecy. But he never thought that Anna would abandon the baby as soon as she's born. He was expecting her to breastfeed and take care of the baby as any other normal mother would've done.

He prayed for her to accept the baby. But he couldn't blame her for not agreeing. She deserved to be happy. She'd every right to move on.

He sighed and thought it's time to think practically. He can't control everyone's life. It's better to leave some things in the hands of fate. He looked at little Hera in his arms. "You'll have a happy, secure, and safe life forever as Alexander Hunter's daughter. I promise to give you every happiness in the world, Hera."

His phone started to ring, distracting his attention from the baby. He managed to shift the baby into one arm carefully and took out his phone from his pant pocket. His cell phone flashed his wife's beautiful picture on the screen.

"What is my Queen doing?" He asked, sounding too happy and heard her chuckle from the other end. "Missing her King, " she said. "Whenever you call me Queen, I feel like demanding tiaras to wear and a kingdom to rule."

Alexander grinned from ear to ear. "You're my Queen, and you rule my heart. The tiaras, I could buy you as many as you want, " he said, still grinning.

"When are you coming home, Alexander?" Her voice sounded desperate, and he could feel her pouting like a child. Even though it'd been just a few hours, he was already missing her. "On my way, Darling." He ended the call and looked at Hera.

"Let's go home to our Felicity, little one. Your Mom is waiting."

As Mariana said, Felicity welcomed Hera with open arms.

"She's beautiful, Alexander, " she said as soon as she held Hera in her arms. Alexander smiled, kissing the crown of her head. "She's yours to raise now. Anna doesn't want to come with us. She's going back to France."

Felicity felt sad when she heard that Mariana refused to stay in her daughter's life. She sat on the sofa, settling little Hera comfortably on her lap. "Anna has every right to have a happy life, Alexander. Especially after what all she went through, " she looked at Hera with a warm smile playing on her lips. "And don't worry about this little one. We'll raise her like our own. I already love her."

She removed her platinum chain from her neck and put it around Hera's neck. It had a heart pendant with Felicity written on it, a wedding gift from her husband, Alexander. "Bless you, Hera, with all the happiness in the world. Welcome home, Sweetheart." She said, kissing the tiny palm of baby Hera.

That's why Alexander Hunter kept thanking God every day for bringing Felicity into his life. She was his felicity in every sense. He kissed her lips passionately, showering his love. He'd everything in life one could ask for, a loving wife, a son to rule his world, and a daughter to dote on. Felicity always wanted a daughter, but couldn't conceive after the complications she went through during their son's birth. Now with Hera, their dream to have a perfect family was completed.

"Sydney is beautiful and all, but I want to go home, Alexander. I miss my little troublemaker, " she said, not taking her eyes off Hera. Alexander smiled, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and pecked her temple lovingly.

"We'll leave the day after tomorrow for New York."
