I didn't want to believe Angel when he said Darius had somehow invited Olivia to his party. The very party he put on so he could choose a girlfriend.

Why the fuck is she here? How in the world did he get her information, and even then, why?

Angel claimed to have no idea either, even though he is the one who usually knows everything. The rest of the night, I try to find Darius, or at least Olivia, and figure everything out, but it's useless. The crowd is thick, and getting bigger by the hour.

After a few hours of searching, I break out onto the balcony to get some fresh air, ignoring the odd stares people give me as I brush past them, barely looking where I'm going. I stumble to the edge, but stop when I finally see her.

Standing by the ledge, gazing out over my mother's garden, the light of the moon hitting her face perfectly, she looked like someone out of a movie. My heart stutters at the sight, but quickly starts back up when she turns around, her eyes slowly trailing up to meet mine.

"What the hell are you doing here, Olivia?" I ask quietly, trying to contain the bubbling anger and fear in my chest.

"Like I have told everyone else who has asked me tonight, I was invited by Darius, why else?" she says and moves to open her purse, her movements almost robotic.

"I don't need to see the invitation, " I say, stopping her. She gives me a passive look, making it harder to control my emotions. Why is she acting so calm about this? Is she not aware of the dangers she has willing walked into?

"Do you have any idea what tonight is for?" I ask.

She nods confidently. "Yes, to celebrate your brother's promotion in the family business."

I scoff at the crap Darius seems to be spewing. She isn't entirely wrong, but she isn't anywhere close to knowing the truth.

I'm not sure if I'm relieved or not. I want her to know how dangerous both Darius and I are, but at the same time, I don't want her to look at me with the same disgust everyone else does, once they do find out who exactly I am.

I don't know if I could take that from her. Anyone else, but her.

"Olivia, you shouldn't be here."

She frowns. "You haven't called or texted me in a week, this is seriously what you say to me when you see me?" she says, a hint of disappointment in her tone. She looks down at her clothes, and it makes me look at her completely for the first time.

She looks incredible. My heart beats out of my chest just looking at her face, let alone the gorgeous dress she has on, hugging all her curves perfectly, and accents her cleavage just enough.

"You look amazing, " I mutter, knowing even that isn't enough. No words can describe her.

She rolls her eyes, but I still see the blush on her cheeks.

I still affect her.

A part me is calling myself stupid for doubting that, but another part of me, the anxiety riddled part, feared that I blew it.

After a week of wallowing, then seeing her now, it makes me realize I don't want to blow it. It also made me realize that I can't choose who is fit for this life and who isn't. Some are meant to walk a certain path, and if mine is meant to cross with Olivia's – no way in hell I'm turning around.

"Olivia, I can't say I'm sorry because those are just words. I am sorry I haven't called you, but please let me show you instead. Can you give me the chance?" I take her hand, pleading with my eyes.

She opens her mouth to respond, but is instantly cut off by the sudden cut of the music, and the clinking of a glass. We both wander back into the ballroom confused, to see Darius on top of one of the tables.

"If I could have everyone

en though Darius mentioned he and his father were always closer, it didn't mean that Greyson wasn't close with him in general as well. But from the feeling I am getting off of him, and got off of him when he first mentioned his father, it gave major vibes that they aren't on great terms.

"I'm sorry about tonight, I was hoping we could do something after the party, but it seems I have other plans, " Greyson mutters, clutching the steering wheel until his knuckles turn white.

"It's okay, we can plan something another time. You're going to call me this time, right?" I ask, trying to tease with him, but even I can still hear the slight serious and scared tone, afraid he won't again.

I'm becoming too attached to this man.

"Of course, I've already realized I can't stay away from you." He gazes at me, so much intensity behind his soft green eyes.

We hover towards each other, like a magnet suddenly appears between us, drawing us closer, until our lips meet in a hungry, fiery kiss. Thank god I'm already sitting down.

I can feel how guilty Greyson feels for how he had ghosted me the last week, and how much he wants to make it up to me, all from his kiss. The kiss is almost like a silent promise, this isn't over.

We part reluctantly and I slide out, giving him one last wave before I practically skip up to the front door of my apartment, already planning what to say to Natasha when I get there. To my surprise, she isn't there when I get in, but the door is unlocked.

"Hello? Natasha?" I call out quietly, my heart pounding in my ears.

Something doesn't feel right.

"Hello, Miss Daniels."

I jump at the unknown voice, turning around frantically until my eyes land on the kitchen, where I can see the foot shoe of someone sticking out. I walk closer, peeking my head around, and see a burly man sitting at our small kitchen table, his body taking up the entire chair, and then some.

"Who the hell are you?" I ask, my hand already reaching towards my hand bag where my phone is.

The man lifts his hand and shakes it. "No need for that, I have no intention of harming you or stealing anything. I come here just to converse with you."

"What do you have to say to me? I have never seen you before in my life."

"Ah, but I have seen you. Tonight, actually. Let me properly introduce myself, " he says and stands, sticking his hand out towards me. "My name is Patrick Mathers."
