"Greyson, you have to come out at some point, it's been almost a week."

Angel has been calling outside my door for hours, not consistently of course. He leaves and then comes back, sometimes sounding like his mouth is half full, or like he got into the wine cellar a little.

"Leave me alone, " I call back, my voice hoarse from not speaking awhile.

I locked myself in my room after I left Olivia, too afraid to approach her again, and draw the attention of Marcus or anyone else. At first, I thought about telling Darius, or my father, about what happened with Marcus, but I knew they would jump into action mode, and want to start a full-on war with them.

I'm not interested in that, especially if I'm supposed to be joining the Family soon. I don't want into be right in the middle of a gang war.

"Your brother is asking for you."

This grabs my attention. I didn't even know he was home, saying he had some 'business' to attend too. He didn't have to elaborate for me to know he was probably on his way to do a shakedown.

I swing open my door. "What does he want?"

Angel shrugs. "Go find out, he's in the living room." He turns and walks down the hall, disappearing around the corner like the wind. I huff angrily and trudge my way towards Darius.

He's pacing in the living room, looking deep in thought, but he stops when he hears the doors open.

"Greyson, there you are. I wanted to tell you something, " he says and rushes me over to the couch.

"What is it, brother?" I mutter, my head still stuck in a stormy cloud.

"I had a brilliant idea today, and I want to know what you think. So, you know how father is on my case about showing I'm mature and responsible, and the best way he thinks that will happen is if I settle down?"

I nod vaguely, half following what he is saying.

"Well I had the idea of throwing a party, and inviting all the single women we know, our friends know, whoever. That way, I can try and hit it off with one of them, and get father off my back for a little, until I can figure something else out." He grins at me, as if he thinks himself a genius.

"What in the world made you think that was a good idea?" I ask.

Darius frowns. "Why isn't it?"

"It's a terrible idea. Unless you want desperate women, running after you for a chunk of your fortune, then that isn't the way to go about meeting anyone." My mind instantly flashes to Olivia. I want to let the thought consume me, like I have every other time, but I shake them away to focus on Darius.

"Come on, it's just a temporary solution to show father that I'm trying. Besides, do you have a better idea?" he asks and raises a brow.

"No, I don't, because this isn't my issue."

He snaps his fingers. "Exactly, see? You don't have any ideas either, so, this is the best one. Are you going to help me, or not?"

I groan and think about it, knowing if I don't help, this might turn into a disaster, and piss father off even more.

"Alright, fine."

"Excellent, now I already have a small list of people I want to invite. I need some more names to give to Frank, he's going to make proper invitations. Go get Angelo and look through your address books for anyone you think would be suitable, " he says and whips out his phone, already in planning mode.

I roll my eyes and jump off the couch, gladly taking that as my cue to leave. I set off to roam the house in search of Angel, hoping this is over and done with soon.

I have much heavier issues to not deal with right now.

I stare at my phone, the black screen staring back at me, taunting me with its emptiness. Greyson hasn't texted or called me once since our date, giving me very little hope that I'm ever going to see him again.

It's also given me mad anxiety, wondering why he hasn't contacted me. Was it because of me? Did he not enjoy our date? Was it because of that guy, because of his so-called secret, dark world?

Nothing has made sense with him so far, other than how bad my feelings have grown for him, even though he's basically ghosted me. It hasn't stopped them from gnawing away at my stomach every time I lie awake in bed.

I've tried to distract myself with finding a job, but every place I look at, I wonder if Greyson's family owns it, if that's a thing that really happens with the mafia. No matter what I do, I end up thinking about Greyson; what he's doing, what he's thinking about, if it's about me, or how glad he is to be rid of me.

These thoughts have almost given me depression, if not for my always chipper roommate and best friend. Natasha has kept me somewhat up-beat over everything, trying her best to cheer me up now and then.

Today, however, she is at work and I'm left alone in the apartment, with nothing but my nagging thoughts to keep my company. Again, I try and distract myself with small things; washing the dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the living room. It still isn't busy enough.

When Natasha struts her usual way through the door, holding a handful of mail, I almost fall down in relief.

"Don't faint just yet, you got mail, and I'm pretty sure I recognize that last name, " she says and tosses a thin envelope at me. I squint at the name, and my heart nearly doubles over.

Darius Mathers.

When he introduced himself to me at the hospital, he only told me his first name. If I had known what his last name was, I would have run the opposite way in an instant.

Instead, I told him my name, and we even exchanged phone numbers.

I gave my name and number, to Greyson's brother!

"Why do you look so freaked out?" Natasha asks, walking over to peek around my shoulder. "You haven't even opened it."

"Because I'm afraid of what's inside."

She gives me a confused frown.

"This is from Greyson's brother, Darius, " I say slowly. Her eyes widen and her mouth pops open like a fish.

"Why in the hell is he sending you mail? Has Greyson told his family about you already?"

I shrug, still staring at the envelope. She rips it out of my hand and runs across the room.

"W-wait, Natasha!" I cry and lunge for her, but I'm too late.

She tears open the envelope and pulls out a card. She silently reads it, covering her hand with her mouth in shock, then turns to me.

"Oh my god, girl, you just got invited to a party at the Mather's Mansion!" she squeals and jumps up and down. I run and snatch the card out of her hand, my eyes quickly scanning the fancy cursive.

Dear Miss Olivia Daniels, You are hereby invited to attend a dinner party at the Mather's Mansion, by host and owner, Darius Mathers. Please RSVP below.

The attire is formal. Coat check and valet are available if required.

Yours truly, Darius and Greyson Mathers

I run my fingers over Greyson's name.

He knows about this? Is this an invitation from him then?

Now I have more questions than I did before.

"Well, are you going to go?" Natasha asks.

"I honestly have no idea, " I mutter, tossing the card on the coffee table and walking over to the couch. Natasha

n. I get a small sense of guilt suddenly, like I'm keeping a dark secret. He has no idea I know his younger brother, and have actually taken it several steps further already.

How would he react if he did? I feel like there must be something on his part, in order for him to invite me here tonight. We have just met, and he has all these other guests that he has invited, who he can choose to entertain his time with.

So, why invite me? Dread washes over me when I think that he might have an attraction towards me, maybe even feelings of some sort. It makes the guilt in my stomach grow.

"Why did he want to keep it so bad?" I ask, wanting to distract my thoughts, but I can't help but want to know more about Greyson, even if it's through his brother.

"He loves this garden, and he and my mother had a very special bond. I knew she loved us equally, but it was hard to ignore that they always had a better relationship from the day he was born. My father and I were always close, so it made sense that my mother would spend all her time with Greyson, molding him into a tiny male version of her."

We both surprise each other when we let out a laugh. I quickly clear my throat, tucking a loose hair out of my face so I can duck my head and hide my heated cheeks.

"I can understand why he would want to keep it then. He might feel like it's the last thing left of her, " I say, trying not to sound like I'm assuming too much. Darius gives me another thoughtful look.

"Pardon if this is prying, but I feel like your speaking out of experience."

My throat closes up, and I can already feel the tears welling behind my eyes. I turn my head away and blink them back, keeping my poker face like usual when this happens.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything, " he quickly apologizes, reaching out to grab my arm.

I smile at him and put my hands up. "It's alright, I'm just sensitive. You're right, I am speaking from experience of my own, thankfully however, my mother is still with me for the time being. She too is suffering from cancer, and she is the reason I was at the hospital the other day."

"You looked really distraught, is everything alright?" he asks. I'm taken back by how concerned he sounds. He barely knows me, or the situation with my mother, yet he sounds as if he is a lifelong friend, finding out about it for the first time.

"Yes, she's alright. I was trying to get her a room there, to have her properly looked at and given the best treatment and medication. She can barely afford medication right now, let alone any treatment, and I haven't exactly found a solid job to help. When they told me the prices, it was just upsetting to realize the reality of the situation." I try and say it all with a confident smile, but I feel the corners of my mouth twitching, my fa?ade wanting to fall.

Darius sees right through me, I can tell from his eyes, but he doesn't look at me with pity. He looks at me with understanding, knowing exactly how I'm feeling, and more. I don't ever want to know how he feels, and I dread that both he and Greyson have gone through what is my worst nightmare right now.

If I ever see him again, I am giving him the biggest hug, regardless if he likes it or not.

Someone calls Darius from inside, waving him over.

"Well, I've kept you away from your guests long enough, " I say and turn to leave. He grabs my arm lightly, tugging me back towards him.

"Olivia, I have strong connections with many people at the hospital, if you need help getting care for your mother, please don't hesitate to ask, " he says, his body so close to mine, I can no longer feel the slight chilly breeze.

"I can't ask that of you, " I say, shaking my head.

"If there is a chance to help prevent someone from going through what my family went through, it would me my absolute pleasure to do all I can. Please, " he pauses and reaches into his pocket and pulls out his wallet. He fishes for a card and hands it to me, "contact me if there is anything you think I can help with."

I bite my lip, my nerves completely on edge at this request, but I take the card anyway. He kisses me briefly on the cheek, catching me off guard, and rushes off with a grin.

I stand on the balcony for a few minutes, contemplating what he said. I have no doubt he has a lot of influence in many places around town. The question is if I want to get myself involved in those influences.

Everything comes with a price.

I tuck the card away and turn to walk back in, but a shadow in front of me blocks my path. I know who it is before I look up into his frightened and confused green eyes.

"What the hell are you doing here, Olivia?"
