It was only when Cassandra pulled Cloris into her car that she finally heaved a deep sigh of relief.

Cloris was still in a panic even as she looked at Cassandra.

"Cassandra, let's call the police."

Cloris was furious at Clark for what he'd done to her. To her, Clark had crossed the line.

"I'm afraid he's already gotten rid of any evidence. No use to call the police now. We have to go back first anyway. Mom's waiting for us."

Cassandra knitted her eyebrows, deep in thought.

Clark's words were still ringing in her ear.

"Cassandra, do you think Clark has any evidence that can help Dad?"

Cloris asked cautiously as she eyed her sister.

Cassandra remained silent.

Cloris could feel that her sister wasn't in the mood to talk right now so she didn't push it—she just sat quietly in the car and didn't say another word for the entire drive home.

Edith greeted them as soon as they stepped out of the car.

"Cloris, where have you been? You didn't answer my calls!"

Edith was tearing up as she spoke. She was so worried about Cloris as she had no idea where she was. She was so relieved to finally see her youngest daughter back.

Cloris stole a glance at Cassandra, who subtly shook her head.

"Mom, I'm fine! I'm back now,"

Cloris said casually.

"Mom, Cloris needs some rest. You must be tired too. We should all turn in early tonight. We can talk about this tomorrow,"

Cassandra barged in before Edith could say anything else.

Cloris yawned as if on cue.

Cloris looked exhausted and it broke Edith's heart to see her like that.

"Right. Rest well tonight."

Cassandra and Cloris both headed upstairs when Edith agreed.

"Cloris, don't tell anyone about this, okay? Not even Rufus. I'll help you,"

Cassandra said in a low voice.

"I know. Cassandra, Clark isn't a very nice person. He's hard to deal with so before you do anything, think about it really hard."

Cloris gazed at her sister, a worried look on her face. Even though nothing really serious had happened to her, she knew Cassandra must have been so worried.

'How could Clark demand such an exchange? Disgusting!' Cloris thought to herself.

"Okay. Alright, rest well."

Cassandra forced a bitter smile out as she assured Cloris.

"Sis, there's another thing that I want to tell you."

Cloris looked down the staircases, a hint of hesitation surfaced on her face.

"What is it?"

Cassandra glanced at Cloris.

"The whole time I was in his bedroom, I got really bored and I was

assandra's voice turned soft and gentle. She figured pushing the issue further was only making her father more anxious so she decided to stop.

"Cassandra, it was all my fault. I wasn't a good father. When I get out, I'll make it up to you."

Vernon looked guilty and his eyes were brimmed with sadness.

"Dad, you're not just in here for a year or two. It's ten years. Dad, ten whole years. Do you think we can enjoy our lives when you're in jail? Mom, Cloris, and I are trying our best to handle it but we can only handle so much. We don't have to be so rich. All I want is a decent life for all of us. All we want is that our family can finally be complete. All four of us together!"

Cassandra was getting emotional as she gripped her father's hands in hers.

"Dad, if you want to, I can help you find the person who's really responsible for all of this. I want to save you from this place so we can all finally be together,"

Cassandra said firmly.

Vernon snatched his hand from Cassandra's and turned his head to avert her gaze.

"Things aren't as easy as you think, Cassandra. I know what I got into when I first came here. I've already died once before. I don't want to die again. I'm just patiently waiting for all of this to end so we can all be together again,"

Vernon said tearfully.

"Dad, were you forced to commit suicide at that time? Did anyone threaten you?"

Cassandra furrowed her eyebrows as she carefully studied Vernon's expression.

"Cassandra, just let things be. I've already accepted it. Enjoy your life with Rufus. Take care of your mother and sister while I can't."

Vernon obviously didn't want to talk about any of this.
