Images of his arms around Julie, his lips on hers, and the two of them making love flashed through Jean's mind. At once, a disgusting feeling sank to the pit of her stomach. She wanted to throw up. She wanted to run away from him. This man used to be the center of her world but now was a stranger. Even his scent was foreign to her now. It was different like a woman's perfume was mixed in. Her head swam as the unwanted smell assailed her nostrils.

"Let me go... Get your hands off me..." She struggled desperately in his grasp and finally escaped from under him. Lifting a hand to her lips, she wiped furiously. Those same lips he kissed her with touched another woman's. She scrubbed hard at her mouth, as if wanting to completely erase any trace of him.

Zed watched forlornly as she swiped at her lips with her hands. She acted like his touch burned her, flinching at every contact.

"Why are you acting like this? Why are you pushing me away?" he asked weakly, his chest filled with knots that tightened with every breath. He wanted to understand why Jean was so distant, but at the same time, he was also afraid that her answer would be something he wasn't ready for.

"Why am I acting like this?" Jean spat. Zed's body stiffened in surprise at the undeniable bite in her words. "Why indeed? I'm not the one who kissed his wife with the same lips he kissed another woman. You disgust me. How could you even bear to do that? I don't need your pretense, Zed. Do us both a favor and stop. I can't believe you would be capable of this. Why are you doing this? Is this your way of appeasing your own guilt? Is that it? You can cut the bullshit. I don't need your pity. I don't need anything from you. Let's end everything right here, right now."

With those words, Jean lifted the quilt and attempted to leave, but Zed immediately leapt and grabbed her arm. "Jean, are you crazy?! What the hell are you saying?"

She turned her body sharply, returning his look with anger. "You're right. I'm crazy. And that's because of you! I'm so stupid for pathetically following you. Look where that got me. In a foreign country, living like some lunatic. Just for a second Zed, can't you even think about how I feel?" The rage in her voice broke as a sorrowful lilt cracked through her words until they trailed off.

"Why won't you believe me? I've said this again and again. There is nothing between me and her!" Zed explained, helplessly coaxing her out of her anger and sadness. He didn't know what else he could say to make her believe him.

Jean laughed bitterly and smiled at him coldly. "Sure. Will you tell me that you had not eaten with her yesterday? Or that you weren't the one who taught her how to use chopsticks?" she asked, her eyebrows raised, as if challenging him for his denial.

Zed froze at her question. She knew his movements down the very details.

"How... How do you know this?" he asked, dumbfounded.

"It doesn't matter. Let me seriously ask yo

is departure.

Alone in the room, Jean opened her eyes and completely dropped all her guises. The tears she had denied earlier fell like a steady stream from her eyes to the pillows.

She thought of the traces of reluctance in his voice. Was it real? Or was it just her own wishful imagination? Jean let thoughts of him linger for a while. After a few seconds, she sighed, her shoulders sagging wearily in the sheets. "Forget it. No matter how much I think about it, it won't change anything. Thinking about him any more than this would just be torture," she spoke to herself.

After taking a few deep and calming breaths, she reached out and wiped the tears from her face, eager for the arms of sleep.

At midnight.

A warm sensation enveloped her. Through her sleep-haze, the sensation mingled with her half-formed dreams. She turned her body and curled up in the comforting feeling wrapped around her.

A satisfied smile curved on her lips as she basked in the quiet warmth of the dream. Then, once again, she fell asleep.

The next morning, she woke up and saw a man sleeping next to her. It did not take even a minute for her to know who it was.

"Devious bastard," she muttered. "He even said that he would stay in another room yesterday. But he actually sneaked back in and lay beside me. Liar!"

She opened the quilt and hurriedly changed her clothes. Then, she left for work.

The man in the bed, smiled with satisfaction. He sat up and stretched, waking his limbs from restful sleep. "Oh, I'll be as devious as necessary," he said to no one in particular.

He picked up the phone and looked at the time. It was still early. Then he walked to the closet, sifting through the clothes. He hung mostly suits, while most of Jean's clothes were sportswear.

"Hmmm. I might need to do a bit of catching up," Zed said to himself, eyeing Jean's clothes, a mischievous glint lighting up in his eyes. He came up with an idea. Things were going to be interesting.
