"What are you even talking about!" Zed yelled at Julie, trying to warn her.

On the other side of the phone, Julie seemed to realize Zed wasn't alone. In a cynical tone, she said, "Is your wife next to you? Is that why you are in such a hurry to hang up?"

Zed raised his head and shifted his eyes to Jean, and saw her looking at him sternly.

Zed did not really want to explain anything. "If there is nothing else, I'll hang up now. It's too late..." he said coldly, still feeling Jean's fixed gaze on him.

He knew Julie would talk nothing but nonsense if he gave her the chance, getting him into even more trouble. It was better to cut her short right away.

But since Zed did not answer her question, Julie thought Jean wasn't around him and went on. "Why are you in such a hurry to hang up? And when will you come to see me? I miss you so much, Zed!" she exclaimed with a hint of honesty and helplessness in her voice.

"Why would I see you, Julie? Stop talking like that!" Zed had lost his calm. In fact, he was freaking out.

"Like what? You promised me yourself. Are you going to deny me now?" Julie now sounded angry, and continued, "Don't you dare forget what you said to me when we were together!"

Her words annoyed Zed even more.

Jean slid away from him on the bed and glared at him in frustration, breathing loudly. Zed could see how pissed she was.

"I can't talk to you anymore! I have to go to bed. Bye!" Zed hung up the phone quickly and looked at Jean dejectedly. "I can explain," he said sheepishly, with a sense of guilt.

"Don't bother! Get the fuck out of here! I'm done with you!"

Jean yelled at him without any restraint, infuriatingly pointing at the front door.

"Come on! At least listen to me. It's not what you're thinking!" Zed entreated. He wished he could make Julie appear here somehow and make her explain it all to Jean.

She had already gotten him in enough trouble.

But Jean wasn't ready to listen to anything. She lifted the quilt and got out of the bed barefoot. Enraged, she pulled Zed out of the bed as well.

"Jean, stop! I can call Julie again and have her explain everything!" Zed pleaded. He fetched his phone and tried to dial Julie's number again.

But before he could do that, Jean pulled him away, ye

e walking in her direction.

Jean pursed her lips and let out a sigh. She gave Julie a cold look and strode past her.

"Are you here for work, Julie?" the receptionist asked her politely.

"No, I quit. Oh, by the way, Mr. Qi told me to collect a VIP card from you. Do you have it?" Julie asked, leaning on the desk with a cheerful smile.

"No, he's still sleeping upstairs. Let me call him and ask," the receptionist said.

"No, no, it's okay! Which room is he in? I'll go upstairs and find him myself. I need to talk to him anyway," Julie said. The receptionist appeared to be considering whether to tell her the number or not. Julie sensed her dilemma and flashed another one of her pretty smiles.

To her happy surprise, it worked! The receptionist gave her the room number without hesitance.

At the time, Jean was stepping out of the hotel reception area and happened to overhear Julie's words.

She turned her head slightly and saw her walking toward the elevator.

Jean felt a lump in her throat. Things were going drastically out of her hand.

How could Julie simply head to Zed's room like that? Who would believe nothing was going on between the two of them? Jean guessed it was perhaps due to the fact that Zed refused to see her last night that she had come to see him at the hotel.

A voice in Jean's head told her to go upstairs and see what was going on.

But truth was she was so shocked and so afraid of finding out what was transpiring that she could barely move to take a step.
