"It's coming to me. I think she's called Jesse... Tang! right, Jesse Tang." Juan clapped his hands in excitement at finally having remembered.

Jean couldn't help but roll her eyes. 'First he hesitated on the name, then he got excited on remembering.'

She felt speechless at how unreliable Juan was.

How stupid of him to say he would definitely remember that beauty's name and then took forever to recall!

Jean sighed internally, exhausted. Her eyes seemed to be far off, thinking intensely.

Jesse seemed to have been a part of Zed's life for longer than she could imagine. Jean was hoping to avoid the conversation concerning Jesse, but since her name was brought up by Juan, she couldn't help but carry on with her questions.

"Tell me one thing, was it because you flirted with Jesse, that Zed held a grudge against you?"

Jean asked, feigning no interest. All she actually wished was to be done with this as soon as possible.

"No." Juan shook his head urgently and looked at Jean, sighing, "Tell you what, that Jesse was a real piece of work. When she figured we were flirting with her, she behaved so badly and eventually Zed found out. Things did not go well after that. You know how he is. He could be utterly ruthless if he intends to. He punished us by depriving us of a whole day's meals and commanded us to climb the mountain with a hundred kilograms of weight on our backs! Can you believe it!

Back at the campsite, we could barely feel our feet. I swear to you, in the dormitory, you could hear the cries of pain. I was so triggered by my fellows' pain that I planned a revenge. So, I gathered some of my best buddies and went to Jesse's dorm, dressed up as a ghost to prank her.

I always thought girls were scared of ghosts. So I reckoned it would be a good idea. I mean, the plan was pretty simple, to scare her and make things even. She needed to suffer the way we had. Tit for Tat. Even though it didn't even compare to the ordeal we had gone through due to your dear husband, Zed. But, what happened then was beyond what we could even... "

Juan paused, a bitter, empathetic smile on his face.

Seeing Juan so flustered, Jean decided to continue on her own, "Imagine? That you would scare to such a length that she would pass into a coma and get seriously ill?"

"How do you know about that?" Juan asked, feelings of embarrassment creeping up in his heart. What would she think of him?

"Juan, don't worry. I've dealt with her in the past. I could easily make out her tricks," Jean tried to explain, kindly.

"What do you mean? What tricks? Are you implying she faked the entire thing?" Juan seemed to have deduced the truth as he asked in disbelief.

"What else?" Jean said, as though it was a matter-of-fact. "Did you really think she was so puny? So much so that she'll get scared into a freaking coma by a bunch of guys pr

o think as he looked at Jean's face which had an almost monstrous look. What had gotten into her? Why was she reacting so loudly?

"Please don't look at me like that," she almost pleaded, her face suddenly softened." Didn't I already tell you? Even though I haven't asked him his past clearly, I am not an idiot. I can figure things out. It's been months since we got married. So yes, you can safely assume that I've figured out his history, more or less. Does that satisfy you, Juan?"

Jean said, coming off a little desperate to prove herself right.

Juan nodded in affirmation and said, "Jean, to be frank, you are the smartest woman I have ever encountered in my life and are very, very special to me. I respect you so much. Zed's lucky to have been able to marry you."

"Tell me honestly, though. When you first saw me, weren't you wondering how could Zed marry someone so plain-looking?" Jean asked, jokingly.

"I..." Juan tried to answer but couldn't bring himself to confess the truth. Feeling too awkward, his face flushed.

Jean smiled gently and spoke, "Alright, alright. I was just messing with you. Relax. Now that you've reacted that way, I can say you're a normal person." Juan's reaction confirmed Jean's speculation.

Even though she came off joking, she felt sad inside. But well, such was life and she had gone through too many things to be deeply affected by trivial things like these. She had learned to let go.

"Jean, don't ever care about what people think of you. It really doesn't matter, as long as Zed loves you. Don't let anyone get into your head. I shouldn't have to tell you, your relationship should be unaffected by what others think or say because together you've gone through so many things. They would never know. Always remember that."

Juan tried to comfort Jean. He could see part of her being in thought, doubting, ruminating. There were too many knots to untangle.
