"Mr. Lu," Nancy addressed Charles while he was sitting in front of her. "Ms. Zhang has bad intentions, and Sheryl doesn't get much peace these days. What are you going to do?" She didn't bother to hold back or sugarcoat her words, as she knew he understood what she meant.

Charles nodded. Even Nancy could see it clearly, so he wondered why Melissa didn't.

"Relax, Nancy. I've arranged everything, so you don't need to worry about these things anymore," he told the woman. "What I need you to do now is take good care of my mother." Charles was relieved that their housekeeper was as devoted as she was sensible. He could relax as long as she looked after his mother.

"Okay." Nancy smiled. "I believe you, so I won't say anything about the matter anymore. But please, Mr. Lu..." Nancy looked at Charles solemnly. "Don't do anything that will make Sheryl sad again."

"Don't worry. I won't," Charles assured her.

This made Nancy feel much better. The two of them talked for a little more before Nancy had to make breakfast.

When Leila and Melissa got up, they saw Charles waiting for them in the living room.

"Charles, what are you doing up so early?" Leila inquired. "You should rest some more."

Charles looked at her briefly before turning his attention back to whatever he was doing before the two came down. He suspected Leila even more as she seemed to deliberately offer him care and consideration.

An awkward silence filled the room, and Leila quietly took the seat in front of Melissa.

Noticing her son's cold behavior toward Leila, Melissa shook her head and turned to Charles. "Charles, why don't you take Leila with you to the office after breakfast?"

"Okay," he replied nonchalantly.

Since Charles was lost in thought so early in the morning, Melissa decided not to prod him any further. It was best to take some things little by little.

When Nancy was almost done preparing breakfast, Melissa led Leila to the dining room. She looked over to Charles, who had remained seated. "Sweetheart, it's time for breakfas

He had expected Leila to behave like this. In fact, had Charles not told him not to fight with Leila, David would have done worse than merely being passive-aggressive towards her.

They arrived at Shining Company shortly after. While Charles did not go to work the day before, everyone in the office knew he was back.

And to put it simply, his return had started an uproar in the company.

Everyone was optimistic. The dark clouds that had loomed over them during Leila's reign would surely dissipate with Charles' return. They knew that the moment Charles came back, Leila's rule would end.

Inside the Secretary Department, two girls were chatting by the copy machine.

"Hey, Wade, do you think Leila will come back here when Mr. Lu comes back?" Fanny asked her colleague, expectantly.

Fanny had been working at the Shining Company for many years now. She was already here when Leila had started, and she would still be here when Leila got fired again. And just recently, she had witnessed Leila come back to work and take an even higher position than her previous one.

"Who knows? That woman is cunning. I hope Mr. Lu sees through her act." Wade crossed her arms across her chest, her dislike for Leila growing by the second.

They were all women. Why was it that Leila was promoted so quickly while others had to remain secretaries? It was not fair.
