My heart ached so badly for him, and I didn't know why he was holding up this wall. "Maximus, I'm sorry-"

"I don't need your pity Maya, I hate pity. Sorry never made anything better, it was just a word that some fool made up to defend his actions. So don't!"

Taking two steps back, I was ready to yell at him. But stopped when I saw his expression.

He started down at the small wooden toy horse, the look on his face made me feel bad. He threw the toy in the cart, "We can leave now-"

"I don't pity you Maximus; this is me feeling sad, then saying sorry. I placed myself in your position and felt your pain, that why people say that word. Sorry is all we know, and that woman got what she deserved. I would have done the same thing if someone did that to a child I loved as my own."

"I don't need you to feel bad for me. I just wanted to point out that wolves and humans don't mix." He said defensively.

"Fine, are you finish?" I asked in a shaky tone.

"What's wrong with your voice?"

Holding back my tears that wanted to fall badly, I turned around, why did my chest ache for him? "It's nothing; we should get going."

Ignoring him, I walked over to the nearest cash-out register. A woman with long black hair and brown eyes was standing there, "What do I now?" Maximus whispered from behind me.

I started placing items on the conveyor belt while the woman scanned away with an attitude. I don't blame her, if someone came up to me with this much things, I would have put up the close lane sign.

Huffing irritatingly, I apologised to her. "It's cool, sorry. Just having a bad day, I swear it's not you." She said in a sad tone.

"I'm sorry that you're having a bad day, hope everything turns around for the better good."

"Thanks, that made my day." She replied with a smile. "What's all these clothes and toys for?" She asked curiously.

"Um, just buying them for some people and kids I know."

"Aww, early Christmas I see. That's nice tho, omg, my son has been dying for this toy." She said as she scanned it. "Lucky kid whoever gets it."

The conversation went on with her and I until it was time to pay.

"$489.72, cash or credit?"

I paid with dad's credit card as Maximus loaded up the cart back up.

"Have a nice day and don't stress too much, " I told her as she handed over the receipt.

We walked away before I heard her screaming for us to stop, I turned around and faced her as she ran towards us. "You guys forget this, don't want the kid to be bummed out when he doesn't get his toy."

"That is for your son, " Maximus said.

I turned around to look at him surprisingly.

"I couldn't-"

"I insist, please." He said softly with a warm smile.

Tears filled up her eyes as well as mine, "Thank you, thank you so much.

3 hours into the driving.

"We, are never ever, getting back together. Weeee, are never, getting back together." I sang out loudly.

Maximus turned lowered the music down, "Hey, I was in my zone."

"I thought you said you were never singing again. I think you should stop now. Your voice sounds like it's on fire from singing so loudly."

"Well, if you and he weren't so mute. I wouldn't be entertaining myself. Shit-" I cursed out loud, watching the police car light up behind me.

"I wasn't speeding, why is he pulling me over?"

I moved over to the right side of the road before turning off the engine, grabbing my backpack, I searched for my licenses.

Looking back in the driver's mirror, I frowned. Since when do cops don't wear uniforms on duty?

I rolled down the window third of the way, handing him my information. He inspected them with his flashlight before looking at me.

"Where are you off too?" He asked.

"Just a road trip with my brother and boyfriend, is there a problem officer?"

"No, just wanted to see if you were under the influence of drunk driving. You can go now, make sure to keep your headlights on at all times." He said, handing me back my license.

I felt something was off, but was glad I didn't get a ticket. "Will do, thank you."

He nods his head before going back to his car, I took off after he did.

"Yea, it's him. He's with a girl named Maya Hudson, should I follow them, sir?"

"No, did you place the tracker on the car?"

"Yes sir, you should have signal on where they're going."

"Yes, I do. Job well did, I'll take it from here. Report back here as soon as you can. We have to know where they're going; they can lead us to a pack of some kind."

"Yes sir, what about the officer I have knocked out in the back? Should I just leave him?"

"Yes, just leave."
