"Okay, " He said. "You're a woman now, right – completely?"

She nodded.

"Fair enough. I can live with that."

She nodded, barely able to speak now. Something inside her just made him want to reach out and hold her, to comfort her. He couldn't possibly imagine that she had ever been anything other than the beautiful creature he was seeing before him now. Regardless of the past, what she had become was what he saw.

"Is it all right if I hold you?" He asked softly. She nodded. "You won't kick my ass or anything?"

She nodded again. A little breeze moved wisps of her hair as he took another step towards her.

"You sure?" He asked. "It's hard to be taken seriously as a bounty hunter round here if you have a black eye and bits of wadding sticking out your nose."

She nodded again, giving the world a sad little smile. He reached out. She felt the warm, comforting feeling of his arms around her. It did help. Something deep down inside her knew it. It helped a lot. The wave of emotion subsided. Sometimes, she thought, it's easier to be a man. No complex emotions to deal with, no emotional rollercoaster, no need to have someone to talk to after a hard day at work. Having full control all the time. Men have it so easy sometimes. Like this one with his arms around her – a man who hunted criminals for a living, a bounty hunter. But he was also a man who would choose morality over a paycheck, a man with a conscience, who liked to sleep peacefully at night. A bright, good looking g

ill do the job. I mean, we found him didn't we? The fact that you can still let him go when you obviously wanted to prove yourself so badly, must mean something, right?"

"You're starting to sound just like a shrink I knew once." She smiled, having known a few.

"Knowing that you did what you set out to do – even if they don't know it – the self-knowledge that you are every bit as good as they are, is reward enough?"

She sighed. He was right on the money. She turned her head to give him an appreciative look.

"Damn, you're good. All this and brains too. What more could a girl ask for?"

"I dunno…" He grinned at her. "Money?"

"Nah… wealth is over-rated." She quipped. "Possessions own you."

He smiled at her, running his fingers through her hair. He could see where this was going. They both could.

"Just as well I'm not a rich feller then. Aside from that jeepo over there, all my worldly possessions are in an old trailer halfway over the edge of a new crater in Lugaluru!"
