"You look familiar." Said the tall one as they stopped close to him. He was the ugliest of the pair, with a scar that ran down over the left side of his face. His left eye had no eyebrow, and the lid looked damaged. The second was slightly better looking, but he had a hardness about his appearance, something that suggested he had venom for blood. Both looked very ready to draw on him like this was the Wild West and they might score points somewhere for doing so.

"A face as ugly as yours could be worth a fortune in gold, " He grated coldly. "Or so pretty I could even kill you for free."

The ugly one grinned at nothing in particular, more for aesthetic reasons presumably, or because he thought it made him look relaxed or even more dangerous. Sitting there on his stool, Adam presented them with a perfect target. 'Sitting duck, ' he believed it was called. He tilted his head, just so, giving them a clear view of his good side, smiled – and with lightning suddenness, stepped backwards off the stool and flung the glass into the face of the first man. Then, in one smooth movement, he flipped the stool into the air with his front foot, which was still hooked into the footrest, caught it with his hands and hammered the feet into the stomach of the second. A lightning grab of the first man by the gun-arm led to him smashing his attacker's face into the bar counter, which sent the man crashing into the base of the bar, stunned. Before the second could recover, Adam hammered him in th

rivate communique."

'Now what would that be about?' Mykl wondered.

"Okay, I'll take it in the office." Mykl said. He rose and headed to the foyer at the back of the bridge, where the elevators were, beside a doorway in an alcove that led into a small room at the entrance to the Captain's office. Another doorway to his right led into the conference room. Once inside his office, the com panel on the wall facing his desk had already lit up with the image of a high ranking officer, waiting.

"Admiral Lirtman." Mykl greeted.

"Captain d'Angelo." The other greeted tersely. "I trust all is well?"

"As well as can be expected, sir." Mykl replied truthfully, though not without a hint of irony. "What can we do for you today?"

"Good, well, I've a new assignment for you – priority one. Your present assignment is postponed until further notice with immediate effect."

"What's this all about, Admiral?" He asked. "There isn't a war on, is there? Not another one, anyway. Hopefully."
