Mykl couldn't believe what he'd just heard!

"That's a load of bullshit!" He smirked skeptically, and afforded himself the luxury of a slight smile. "That was a very nice speech, though – you steal that too?"

"I meant every single word." Blachart said, candidly. "When this is over, I think I'll take a holiday."

"Fine, " said Mykl, his pride still stinging, "You do that. I'll take a risk and trust you – as far as this mission goes – but pull another stunt like that and you'll be floating home. You got me?"

"On disk, Captain d'Angelo." Blachart said, "Now – why exactly did you want to see me?"

Why did Mykl want to see him again? To get to know his enemy a little better, develop a working relationship – or at least, his understanding of the man… He dropped the weapon on the desk.

"Never mind!" Mykl said, "Let's go – back to the bridge!"

With twenty hours still to go, there was a long ride ahead of them – and still a lot of thinking, a lot of planning… last minute planning. Mykl instructed his team that no ranks or titles were to be used by them in addressing each other – or him, until further notice. Mykl wanted a little advance info from their sinister guide. What could they expect when they arrived on Meradinis, where would they land, and what kind of people could they expect to meet? What possible escape routes would they have if they ran into trouble? Would his improvised Corsair crew be convincing enough to complete the planned surveillance on the surface without arou

rt of his mythos after all… so he assigned Lt. Hanson to keep an eye on him while Mykl found a clean-looking bunk in the deceased Corsair crew's quarters to lie in for a few hours. As he lay there, listening to the faint sounds of the engine being conducted through the ship's hull and framework around him, Mykl thought of Ripley and what their futures might hold, until he gradually drifted off to sleep.

A few hours later, Mykl awoke, feeling refreshed and ready for whatever was coming. In the meantime, after contacting the bridge and speaking to Hanson, he felt more at ease – nothing untoward had happened during the night… if it could be called that. It was dark outside – but then it was always dark outside. One of the marine Specialists had announced a sturdy breakfast in the Undertaker's mess over the intercom, and Mykl casually sauntered in, and helped himself to toast, soft-fried eggs, and crispy streaky bacon, and a mug of coffee. He took a table by himself and began to tuck into his meal.
