"White really isn't your color." Mykl jibed as an opening shot.

"I'd be happy to change into something darker." Blachart replied smoothly, "But I'm afraid I seem to have misplaced my clothes."

"Do the accommodations suit you?"

"They do not." Blachart replied impassively.

"I have something for you. A proposal."

"A decent one, or an indecent one?" Blachart replied. His brief smile faded almost as quickly as it had come.

"Both." Said Mykl. "For you it'll be decent – for me, it'll be downright indecent."

"That sounds interesting indeed. I'm listening."

Mykl eyed the man coldly. He really didn't want to do this – but it was necessary, and he agreed with Hobbs.

"The Fleet is offering you a deal, " He began. "A full pardon and a clean slate, in exchange for your full cooperation."

"What kind of cooperation, exactly?"

"Thanks to you, we now know where to find your Corsair base." Mykl continued. "We're sending a recon team into the Omegan Quadrant in the next few days. It'll be a short scouting mission."

"So?" Blachart asked. "What's that have to do with me? Good luck to them."

"Your part will be to act as a guide – to get the team through any defenses, and also on the planet."

"A guide?" Blachart repeated slowly. "A guide to where?"

"Meradinis of course." Mykl said, delivering what might as well have been the punch line to a joke.

Blachart chuckled. Then he laughed. He seemed to be enjoying the joke. Perhaps it was the i

r the mission. His selected Corsair crew had already grown rough stubble over the past few days, and were beginning to look the part, and had been told to prepare themselves mentally for the mission. Black clothing and accessories had been procured and a wardrobe practice session held to make sure the team didn't end up with mismatched or wrong-sized items on the day. A selection of likely personal weapons was set aside in the cargo bay of the Undertaker, taken from the cargo itself. Mykl had all his own kit ready, packed in his office. To be totally honest, he was actually looking forward to the trip – it felt like a school outing to see the lions at the zoo, just with slightly more deadly consequences.

Ripley was trying to reconcile herself with the fact that he was going, and that there was a possibility – however small – that he might not return. He tried hard to allay her fears, and she handled it well, but deep down, he knew she was worried about it. He was too.
