On the bridge of the Antares, Ensign Muller was still closely monitoring the situation on the Corsair ship.

"There's just been another massive explosion!" Ensign Muller reported. "At least seven minor hull breaches, auto-seal is in progress!"

"What the hell's going on over there?" Ripley wondered.

"No idea, ma'am – but scans show only seven life readings!"

"They tricked us like that before!" Ripley remarked cynically.

"Confirmed, Commander!" Nordyke added, "I'm reading fluctuations in their power grid! Multiple systems failures! Fire control is offline, life support is down!"

"How far is the boarding party?" Ripley asked.

"Just about ready to leave!" Nordyke replied. She gave him a dirty look. "What?" He shrugged. "They had to kit-up first!"

"Tell them to wait for me!" Ripley told him as she got up and ran for the exit. "Your ship, Ric!" She said in passing.

The lights were dim and the air still and hazy. The smell of burning was pungent. The last squad of security marines from the I.S.S. Antares moved quickly down the corridors, in single file, crouched and ready, blasters raised. They avoided the occasional electrical fires where power conduits had shorted out. So far the only resistance they'd encountered was the air – it was like breathing soup. Respirator masks made it b

work on putting out the fires to try to save the ship. There was always the chance they might find something useful to help locate the Corsair base world.

When the squad of marines found the brig, the prisoners had already been freed. A couple of dead Corsairs lay sprawled on the deck in the large room, just outside the cells. There were three rather large cells along the side of the room. Ripley recognized Lt. Hanson and two other battered looking marines that were standing around in the foyer, just looking dazed. The first two cells were empty, but the third was piled with the corpses of the boarding party. They lay motionless on the dull gray deck and on top of each other. There was a strange ethereal silence, looks of disbelief and shock plainly visible on their faces. Ripley recognized Mykl, who also seemed somewhat subdued. He spotted her too, and approached her.
