The blond man, who was presumably the skipper, glared at them silently for a long tense moment before speaking.

"You've no right to do this, you know, " The blond man said softly, directing his comment at Falcone. "This is a commercial vessel, we know our rights. You're pushing your luck."

Falcone raised a finger, was about to say something, then thought better of it. He stepped up to the man, leaning in closer.

"You're pushing yours." He glowered. "Take us to your cargo deck. Let's see how commercial you really are."

The blond man, who was slightly taller than Falcone, looked down at him silently and gave no sign of emotion.

"Very well." He said, and gestured for them to follow him. "Follow me."

They began to follow the tall blond man to the entrance of the corridor, Falcone and Mykl leading the body of security marines, when the blond man suddenly wheeled round, grabbed Falcone's wrist, flicked the weapon away effortlessly and wrangled him into a headlock! Falcone's arms flailed helplessly, and the old man felt something hard being jabbed into his back that felt suspiciously like the muzzle of a weapon! Kicking himself for being so easily led and caught, the panting Falcone eyed his fallen blaster on the deck plating – and then at Mykl d'Angelo, whose weapon had come up instinctively, and seemed to be aimed at the blond man's head behind him. A tense silence had fallen – the marines behind d'Angelo were aiming their weapons too, but seemed unwilling to fire with Falcone being used as a shield. He heard Hanson ordering his marines to hold fire. The man began to edge away backwards, taking the stricken Joel Falcone with him. Mykl kept his weapon trained on his target.

decapitated corpse. Pandemonium erupted around them. Marines and corsairs opened fire simultaneously in the enclosed space. Bits of material and debris slew from the walls and ceiling around them became airborne shrapnel, flying this way and that, and stung Mykl's face. Somehow in the chaos, Mykl dragged himself towards Falcone. The old man lay beside his late captor, still, and deathly pale. Blood had soaked the deck beneath him, and the back of Falcone's clothing, but it was hard to tell where it came from! His searching fingers found the wound, in the small of Falcone's back – the bastard had shot Falcone through a gap in his body armor as he died! Suddenly Falcone's eyes flickered open, and he grabbed Mykl by the wrist. The old man was still alive!

"Worst… damn… career move… ever!" Falcone grated sarcastically.

Mykl dragged him aside, towards the corner, and hopefully out of the line of fire. He found Falcone's blaster where it had fallen earlier and recovered it. A sheet of flame and shattering noise blasted overhead from both sides. Marines were even taking cover behind their dead now. This wouldn't last long.
