"Yes." Said Falcone to Hobbs, patiently building a little pyramid with his fingers. "Starbase 91 completely destroyed by Corsairs… over eight hundred dead – so what do we do now?"

Hobbs pondered the question, and gave Captain Falcone a concerned look.

"This is a delicate matter. A damn dangerous delicate matter." Hobbs said. "Tremaine and Andronicus are our two oldest colonies, closest to Earth. If they were brave enough to mount an attack of that scale so close to the capital planet, they must be very confident!"

"They're getting bolder, Jon." Falcone added. "Gods damn it, we've got to hit them back somehow – make them stop and realize that there are consequences to their actions!"

"I empathize with your candor, Captain." Hobbs agreed. "But as you know, we can't strike back at them because we don't know where to strike. Unless you know something I don't?"

"No, I don't, Jon." Falcone replied sullenly. "It's just that – well, their ships are old relics and converted freighters – with at least average armaments, I'd say. The damage on the station seems to fit. Nothing short of slam-torpedoes would make holes like that!"

"You're right." Hobbs nodded. "They've been buying up stolen weapons on the black market for years. But it still doesn't mean a fleet of worn-out old loderunners poses a serious threat to a proper, dedicated battle fleet. "

"So if they couldn't possibly win a stand-up fight with the Fleet, why…"

"Why go looking for one?" Hobbs said, finishing Falcone's sentence. "I wish I knew the answer to that question, Joel." He paused for a while, his brow furrowed, deep in thought. "I think we need to make finding their base our immediate priority."

My

ack to the bridge."

Falcone nodded to release her, and sat in silence pondering Hobb's instructions. Mykl felt acutely uncomfortable – having a good looking girl looking him over was fine – but the thought that 'this is Ripley, for god's sakes' seemed to be running his mind, buck-naked and wailing like a siren, smeared in green jello, with a flashing red light on its head. Her stare only brought up memories – all bittersweet, painful ones… of a younger him – and a younger her. Ripley made sporadic eye-contact with him as she turned and moved toward the door. Her gaze was suggestive, intense, and there was a strange light in her eyes that promised good things to come. But in his heart, an instant doubt raised its hand and timidly said 'seriously?' After everything that went wrong between them, she really wanted to reopen that old wound? He wanted to say something to her, something on the order of: "Don't look at me like that unless you mean it", but he couldn't, not now – here, in front of the old man. She broke eye contact with him as she walked away. The door closed behind her, leaving him sitting with the Captain.
