His work all but forgotten, he sat behind his desk in deep contemplation.

What she said to him, most of it was true. He was surprised though, she showed so much strength. She even took in his harsh words without breaking down. He knew that he was being an asshole but he couldn't help it. His feelings were out in the open now.

But his heart, it wanted more. It wasn't satisfied with how things had gotten about.

But still, this wasn't how he had ever planned things would work. He wanted to have a good life with Anissa. If not a normal life then at least a good life. And for that, he knew he would have to compromise. And even though he didn't want to, he had no choice.

It was just a little compromise. A small voice whispered in his head. And he knew that. But he also knew that at that small gesture, it required something great. It required for him to let his guard down. And he didn't want that.

Since that day three years, the day Anissa betrayed him, he never let his guard down again in front of her. And this way, he protected his heart.

The hurt and the pain of heartbreak he felt that day, was something he never wanted to experience again.

But what did he get on return for keeping on the safe side? Did he get any freedom or safety? Did he feel free and open? no, he didn't. He only felt suffocated with a little bit of security.

He went back to his bedroom. Taking a deep breath, he turned the knob and carefully opened the door. He found his wife sleeping soundly.

He didn't know why but he always found it more convinient to confess his feelings to Anissa when she's asleep; mostly because he feared her reaction.

Shehryaar perched beside her carefully and gently took her hand in his as he watched her. She looked so peaceful. He avoided looking at her rounded stomach for fear of his resolve breaking.

"It's not that I don't trust you. It's more like I don't trust myself." He muttered lowly. "I don't trust myself because of what I know and believe. And i don't believe in family. I wasn't brought up that way. I'm a very dangerous man. I don't think that you or these, " he paused, his eyes going to her small rounded stomach. For the first time, he felt an urge to touch her stomach voluntarily, to feel the two lives inside of her.

Gently, he placed his hand on her stomach and he felt a smile on his lips. "This really is precious." He said under his breath but then his memories interfered and his smile vanished.

'.....You two monsters....'

"But I can't do this." He whispered and was about to remove his hand from her belly when Anissa's hand came up and kept it there. Shehryaar was taken aback and looked at Anissa only to find her hazel eyes open and a smiling face looking at him.

"I think that's up to me to decide." She said and sat upright. "Talk to me. Let me know."

He was silent, his face crestfallen. Anissa placed her finger beneath his chin and lifted up his face. He looked so lost and confused.

Anissa offered him a kind smile. She extended her hand to him.

"Take my hand." She said.

"Take my hand and trust me." She looked at him with so much hope. "And I'll never let you go."

Shehryaar breathed in deeply. He wanted to believe her. He wanted to take her hand.

"I need you baby." She whispered, her eyes turning glassy. "Take my hand and I'll be yours forever."

'I hate you! I'll never be yours!'

What she had said to him when he confessed his love to her for the first time and all she had to say to him was how much she hated him and that was engraved in his heart. But still, he loved her, his feelings for her remained true. And because of his love for her, he hated to see tears in her eyes, they became his greatest weakness especially when he would let his emotions out and interact with freely.

So, he gave in. He took her hand.

Anissa saw the look in her eyes: his grey gaze was full of longing and ambition.

Carefully, he came near and pulled her in his arms, wrapping them around her petite frame. "I don't know how I'm suppose to feel about this." He muttered under his breath.

"What do you mean?" She queried, wrapping her arms around him, resting her head on his chest, close to his heart.

Shehryaar sighed and buried his face in

tting to it being a mistake now?"

"No. I'm not. But I am sorry."

"Then what's the point?"

"The point is that I just want to move on. But the past isn't allowing us to."

Shehryaar didn't say anything.

"You know that I'm not lying. Yes, it took my pregnancy to realise about my feelings for you. But the truth is, all this time, I looked for something good in you, anything that I could see that could make me fall in love with you. But I saw nothing. And my trauma of you rendered me incapable of thinking of you in a new light. But when I found out that I was pregnant, I came to know what you did for me."

"You protected me Shehry. You protected me in a time when I had gone mad. Even though you were the cause of it, but still, you looked out for me. At that moment, I realised that I had lost your love because of my own actions and it made me want it that's when I realised that I had already fallen for you. And I would do anything to make you believe me. I knew that you wouldn't accept my love for you so easily. I know you think that I have a motive, as if I'm trying to trap you. But that it not the case."

"I love you because of who you are to me. I love you because you're mine. I love you because you've always been there for me. And I love you simply because I can."

Shehryaar felt his heart jump as cold shivers ran down his spine. And all he saw was her. He felt so alive and he felt at peace. Knowing her truth, as she laid them out without any reservations, how she bared her heart out to him, was something he wanted for so long. It was as if that was all he wanted to hear and the great weight on his shoulders was lifted.

For the first time in a long while, he didn't feel alone. He felt as if he finally found his way after lurking in the darkness for so long. She had extended her hand to him, to pull him out of his darkness and he accepted it.

She asks him to trust her. But trust never came easy to him. But for Anissa, he was willing to do it. Because he loved her. So, he finally gave in. He saw no point to being stubborn anymore.

And his heart bloomed with the love and affection that he felt for her. And he just wanted to stay that way, he wanted to feel open. He no longer wanted to suffocate himself in loneliness and doubt. And his guard went down and he felt free.

"I love you Shehry."

At that moment, she shone so brightly. Like a shinning star in a dark night, illuminating the path for weary travelling in a lost course.

Shehryaar found his Tara. He smiled at her and Anissa saw it as a genuine soft smile.

"Tara, " he whispers as he took her in his arms.

She smile with tears in her eyes. "Yes, I'm here. I'm your Tara."

He smiled, feeling his eyes moisten. "I love you, meri Tara."
