**********

Zameer flinched in his place when a blood curdling scream erupted from the door behind him.

He clenched his teeth together and fisted his hands. For the past one week, he had been witnessing this.

Shehryaar stationed him to protect and keep an eye on Anissa.

This was the seventh day she woke up screaming. She had refused to eat and drink so she had to be kept on IV fluids and a urine bag. The family doctor was assigned to her.

And because Anissa was being too violent, she had to be restraint and chained to the bed.

Zameer hated himself for this. He felt responsible: he knew he could have prevented this from happening but he just had to follow through with his boss's orders. His loyalty towards his Saeen was more importnat to him, he had thought that once but now he was seriously beginning to doubt it.

His conscience was making him feel so remorseful. No doubt Zameer was a cold blooded killer and was no better then Shehryaar in any aspect but he had his limits. And he had crossed those limits.

Ever since that day, he couldn't sleep one bit: Anissa's pleas and her tear stained face haunted him.

'Bhai!'

Her screams echoed in his head. She had called out to him but he couldn't help her. He felt so useless. He felt so cowardly. He saw her as a little sister yet he failed her. He failed to protect to her.

'Zameer, always keep her safe.'

He had promised Shahzeb that he would always protect Anissa as soon as she became a Ghulari.

She was his to protect yet he failed.

He failed Shahzeb and worst of all, he failed Anissa.

He had no idea how he was ever going to forgive himself for it. Or more like, how was he ever going to ask for Anissa's forgiveness knowing fully well that she didn't deserve it.

He had a hand in her situation.

He had claimed so many lives and carried out his Saeen's orders without any hesitation and he enjoyed it. He felt accomplished when Shehryaar would give him a mission. Nothing else mattered as long as his Saeen was satisfied. And all in all, he had never had any attacks of conscience: not even when he killed innocent women and children. He didn't fear God or the consequences of this actions then, then what was making him suffer so much out of guilt now?

The answer was simple.

He had promised Shahzeb that he would always protect Anissa.

When Anissa became Shehryaar's wife, he had sworn to himself as well as his Saeen that he would protect her with his life.

Yet he broke his word: he couldn't protect her or save her and as a result, she was suffering now.

**********

Anissa woke up screaming again. She panted and tried to catch her breath.

Nightmares.

This was for the nth time she was woken up with them haunting her.

She couldn't recall how long it had been since she had been unconscious but she had been slipping in and out of unconsciousness only to be woken up by nightmares.

Nightmares of the innocent men pleading her to save them yet she failed.

Her tears began to stream down. The sides of her eyes were burning from spilling so many tears for so long.

She looked at herself: wrists and ankles bound in shackles, arms and legs restrained as an IV tube sticking in her elbow joint.

She had refused to eat. She thought she had no right to eat and feel better when four lives were lost at her behest.

She couldn't recall time. She had been strapped to this bed for the longest of time that her back felt sore. A nurse was assigned to her for her IV and catheter. She hadn't seen Shehryaar for which she was grateful.

She had no courage to face the evil man who was the cause of the state she was in. She had no idea what she would do if she saw him.

Her mind recalled the violent and animalistic acts she had done before she blacked out that day; she didn't regret the damage she had imposed on Shehryaar that day but she did regret her actions; it wasn't her.

The woman who acted so out of place wasn't the Anissa she knew. She wasn't the Anissa Ghalib her parents had raised. she was wild and dangerous. it was a result of the limits that she had broken that day. And Anissa feared it. she had no idea what she was capable of now.

Shehryaar was pushing her off her humanly and ethically limited boundaries and now she feared herself and hated herself more then ever. Shehryaar had brought out the worst in her.

And she was only human; how much more could she take?

Her guilty conscience was killing her spirit slowly.

When she was studying surgery, once a question was asked that what would a physician do if a life was lost in the table. At that moment, Anissa felt afraid and had decided to be always careful even if she didn't take surgery as an occupation later on.

Now she knew what it felt like to lose a life by your hands: but in the case of Anissa, she hadn't lost one life, she had lost four lives. And her conscience and guilt were eating at her.

Slowly, bit by bit, she felt as if her soul was shattering. A part of her was dead along with those men.

And now she knew, she couldn't stay here anymore. Enough was enough. There was only so much she could bare. And she knew that this was just the beginning. Shehryaar wouldn't stop until she was completed broken. And before that could happen, she needed to get away from him.

Breathing in slowly, she tried to calm herself. Her bleeding heart didn't allow that and she started crying again.

Her mind chided for her to stop. She needed to stop being so emotional and sentimental so that she may think but her heart was bleeding out. She couldn't think. She wanted to cry out her sorrows, grieve her wretched fate.

"Bhabi?"

She was pulled out of her thoughts when Zameer approached her with a tray of food. Anissa's stomach growled and clenched upon seeing the food but she ignored it and turned away from Zameer.

Zameer felt dejected upon her turning away.

"Bhabi, " he sighed and set the tray of food on her side table. "Please Bhabi, your quarrel is with me. Don't turn away your own needs. You haven't eaten in a week. Please you need to eat." He pleaded but it fell on deaf ears.

"Bhabi?" He beseeched.

"Please Bhabi, " he coaxed, his throat

w his tie away and immediately engulfed Anissa in his arms as he carried her to the bathroom.

He was surprised that she wasn't throwing a tantrum or putting that much of a fight. He had expected her to throw a fit and he would again find the pleasure in beating her to discipline her but apparently she as being obedient so he felt a bit disappointed but content nonetheless.

Carefully, he stripped her and sat her down in the tub as he left the water running and then stripped himself.

Sitting behind Anissa, he pulled her beyween his legs and to his chest. She was being awfully quiet and he liked it. He felt extremely pleased.

I knew that this would work. He though pridefully.

"Looks like you finally learned." He muttered as he took the shower head and wet her hair. Carefully, he lathered her hair and washed them. Soaping her body, he tried to keep his gaze on her hair. He didn't want anything sexual at the moment seeing as how weak Anissa was. So he controlled his testosterone raged urges and focused on washing her body.

She was not throwing much of a fight and that was a little relieving as well as unnerving for him.

He knew that she was strong and it would take more the this to get her to be obedient. But he didn't think much of it and concentrated on the moment at hand.

When he was done, he quickly showered himself and pulled himself out of the tub. Wrapping a towel around his torso, he remembered that he needed to make an important phone call so he quickly left the bathroom and returned back with a dress for Anissa.

"Dress into this and meet me in the bedroom."he commanded and left.

Anissa's blank stare fell on the dress.

She got out of the bath tub and wore the bathrob.

She approached the full length mirror of the vanity.

Her face wasn't the same anymore. She had lost so much weight.

She looked so differently. In the span of time since she had married Shehryaar, she had changed so much both on the inside and on the outside.

She looked into her eyes: her reflection staring back into her soul.

She looked so sad, so broken.

She felt so ugly.

She felt so hollow.

She needed to feel a little relieved of the emotional stress she was under. Her eyes fell on her hair and then on a pair of scissors.

Slowly, she picked up the pair as an idea popped in her mind; she gathered a lot of courage for what she was about to do.

She had noted that Shehryaar loved her hair: he had even told her that once.

Now it was time to hurt him. The only way she thought to feel a bit better at the moment was to hurt Shehryaar.

Anissa entered the bedroom.

Shehryaar was wrapping a bandage around his hand. Her eyes fell in his bandaged arm and she couldn't help but feel happy at seeing her handy work.

A part of her felt guilty at hurting someone so voluntarily but a big part of her, the part that was hurting and suffering right now felt elated and pleased.

"You're not dressed?" Shehryaar turned to face her.

Anissa cocked her head to the side as a small smile played at her lips. Slowly, she pushed her hair to her left shoulder.

Shehryaar frowned in confusion.

"How much do you love my hair?" She inquired, her voice small and scratchy.

Shehryaar's eyes flashed dangerously when he saw her hand hold the pair of scissors.

"Don't you fucking dare!" He bellowed.

But it was too late as Anissa drew the scissors and began to chop off her waist long hair mercilessly all the while laughing hysterically.
