Claire's anger rose within her when she heard Kevin's laugh. Her grip on the phone tightened as she gritted her teeth. She had earlier coerced Jessika for information about her ex-husband. Jessika gave in telling her the required information and wasn't aware of the call. If she had known she wouldn't have given her ex-husband's name.

Leaving the boys with Jessika, who didn't want to leave their mother's side, she went to the waiting hall. Claire looked up on the Internet and it was easy to find Kevin Stanfield, the CEO of Stanfield Corporation.

She contemplated for a moment before calling his office number which she found on his company website. The secretary put her through when she said she was calling from Canada. Her palms grew sweaty when Kevin's voice came online. Am I doing the right thing?

Whatever might be their differences it was time Kevin took responsibility for his children. What she didn't understand was Jessika's hesitance to contact her ex-husband.

"I don't think I have said anything that was funny Mr. Stanfield." Her voice dripped with anger, fighting to control her tongue that wanted a go at Kevin.

"What kind of game are you playing now lady? I have no children."

"I am speaking the truth."

"Enough! That bitch ruined my life, she still does and what is her new plan?"

Claire flinched at the harshness of his voice and now she understood why Jessika never contacted him. Good, because I am not Jessika.

"I have proof."

"I said enough! I don't have time to listen to this nonsense anymore."

"Oh, that's okay. I am sure the press would love to hear my story. Don't tell me I didn't warn you." Claire didn't know where that came from but the silence on the other end boosted her confidence. "Don't you want to meet your sons Noah and Nathan Stanfield?" She chose her next words carefully.

Kevin was confused, and he didn't know what this new game Jessika played. She got engaged for God's sake. He messaged Max to trace the call as he kept talking to Claire.

"I am not aware of anything you are talking about Ms. Lawrence." Kevin's tone was gentle than before. He wanted to prolong the call until Max could trace it. He kept the conversation civil. Kevin rubbed his face as exhaustion washed over him. He didn't have time for this, but he couldn't let this go either. This woman promised an unwanted headache.

"I know." The woman's voice softened. "I don't know what happened between you and Jessika. But she needs you, Kevin. As a father to her children, I think it's only fair for you to help."

Kevin couldn't stop laughing at that. He paid Jessika two billion dollars for her to sign the divorce papers and this lady claimed Jessika was suffering. Did she think I am stupid? By now, he knew this was another scheme for money. He'd warned her not to cross him again. The paparazzi caught them partying, and it was on the news just this morning. She would pay.

"The call is from Canada." Max's message popped on his screen. He also included an address in Toronto.

"How much do you want?" Kevin gritted his teeth. If she wanted money, she could say so. There was no need to beat around the bush. His insides fumed as his disgust grew.

"I don't want your money, Mr. Stanfield. If possible, please visit them once."

Claire knew the moment he spoke about money, she'd lost the conversation to him. She felt foolish for even calling him. A part of her wanted to bargain with him for money, which will help Jessika and the children. However, the logical part of her brain said Jessika would never appreciate that money.

Kevin didn't expect that answer from her. He expected her to bargain for the money. Again he didn't want to und

She is not here, love. She is on a vacation with her family. I wouldn't have contacted Kevin if I had any other option." She said rubbing her hands. Jessika nodded instead of a verbal reply.

"You know my situation Jessika, with my house sinking in the loan, there was nothing I could do to help you in this situation. So, I thought of the only thing, contacting the father of your children. He has not given you anything. He let his children grow up in this poor society while he lives in luxury."

"I don't know what happened but whatever it was, it's not right to punish your children. Did you think of what will happen to your children if something were to happen to you?"

Jessika had no reply for that.

"I know how much you love your sons but it is also important that you stay healthy to look after them. The insurance covers the surgery, but then what? You can't work like this, it will only weaken you. You won't be able to look after your sons." Claire patted Jessika's hand.

"Just lay back and rest, I will be here with you when he arrives. If he dares say something ill about you, he will have to answer me first."

Jessika nodded as she sobbed.

"Jessika, I know it's not the right time to ask you this. Can you tell me what led you and your husband to divorce?"

Jessika nodded and wiped her tears as she continued to tell Claire about her life with Kevin. Claire listened to the story of her neighbor. She felt sad for not only Jessika but also for Kevin, her mind connecting the dots. She comforted her friend and sat there until she fell asleep.

Claire searched for more information about the doppelg?nger—the one who ruined Jessika's life. Kevin was a wealthy businessman and if she were to help Jessika, then she had to prepare herself. If there was something she could rely on it was the media hawks, who watched men with a high reputation like Kevin.

That would be the last resort though. She won't let this go down and this time she was with Jessika to fight this second round of battle. Something told her that, maybe Kevin and Jessika still had a chance at their relationship.

She didn't believe for a second that Jessika would do something like that. Claire has been her neighbor for the past five years and there was not a single man in Jessika's life. It was not only that. It doesn't take a genius to figure out something about a person who lived next door.

Claire sighed as she looked at the clock, waiting for his arrival.
