I could hear his voice on the other side of the door just a few paces ahead of me. He was bickering with someone, his Italian accent becoming more pronounced as his voice rose. I quickened my pace to reach him.

"I will not be subjected to this again, Johnathon. I have not the patience for it. Where is she now?!" Giovanni's voice was low and menacing, my heart leaping in my chest just at the sound of it.

"We have sent for her, Mr. Grey. Don't fret please. There is no need for violence, " another voice said, noticeably frightened.

I twisted the handle on the door and pushed it open to see my blonde vampire with one hand wound around the collar of another man's dress shirt. I knew I'd seen the man before somewhere in this building, the man who was obviously named Johnathan but the moment Giovanni's ocean blue eyes met mine, I forgot of the other man's existence.

"Leave us, " Giovanni told the man, releasing his grip on his shirt as he continued to stare at me. I stood there, frozen under his gaze even as the other man brushed past me as he exited the room, shutting the door behind him.

I had no time to admire the black suit he was wearing, paired with a lavender colored tie. I had no time to admire the otherworldly beauty of his face and calm collectiveness of his smooth voice.

Giovanni was the first to break the silence before I could, crossing the room and sweeping me up into his arms without a moment's hesitation.

"Dio mio, bella, " he breathed, the relief evident in his voice. "You have no idea how pleased I am to know that you are well." He sighed deeply, breathing in my scent. "Oh how I have missed you, my dear."

"I missed you too, " I told him, breathing in his earthy and wholly masculine scent. He knew where to hold me so that he wouldn't hurt me; his arms tightening around me just above my hips and at the base of my back. I felt all of me: body and soul, relax under his touch. This was what I needed. Right here, in the arms of the man whom I barely knew, was home.

"Are you alright? Are you healing?" His blue eyes burned with concern as he held me away from him, examining me.

"I feel fine." Truly I did-- well at least I felt better than I had two days ago. My wounds looked pretty much the same this morning when I took my shower as they always had: red and raw. But I wouldn't tell him that. If the expression on his face was anything to go by, Giovanni would probably have a brain anuerism if he knew that my healing had somewhat stagnated.

"Please be truthful with me, Teryn." He admonished, his blue eyes hardening to sapphires as his sculpted jaw flexed.

"I'm not lying to you, Giovanni. I'm fine." My gaze fell as the words left my lips, my eyes resting on my fingers intertwined in front of my body. "But I do have to tell you something."

Strong arms, wrapped under my legs and I was hoisted upward in the vampire's arms. He hefted me over to the bed, taking a seat on the edge and pulling my legs around his waist so that I sat astride his lap.

I could feel the blood rushing to my cheeks at the position that were in: his solid, muscular thighs beneath my backside and his strong arms holding me close to his chest. The man beneath me, however, didn't look embarrassed in the least. In fact, he seemed relaxed, his thumbs rubbing small circles on my sides as he stared intently at me, silently inquiring about the information I was about to bestow upon him.

"They're having an auction." The words fell from my lips in a near inaudible whisper. He of course, heard me as clearly as if I had shouted the words at him.

His deep, throaty chuckle vibrated through his chest and my mine, sending a shiver of delight down my spine. "I appreciate you informing me of this but I do not see why this would be relevant to me. What could I possibly purchase at such an auction. I have all that I want, even more so now that we sit here together."

The heat on my cheeks intensified at the confidence in his voice. Was he factoring me into his current state of contentment? Was I something that he wanted? -- I couldn't honestly deny the fact that I wanted to be what he wanted.

Giovanni reached up and caressed my enflamed cheek with his cool fingers. "But that is not all there is to it, is it Teryn?"

"No." I swallowed, staring at the fabric of his pants. "They're holding an auction for all their assets... and that includes me and every other girl here."

His grip tightened on my waist fractionally. "They can not! I have a contract. You are not for sale. You are mine!" he growled from between clenched teeth.

"Armand has declared it null after this evening. I'll be sold to the highest bidder in a week's time."

Suddenly, Giovanni was standing upright in front of the bed, with me still in his arms, those perfect lips set in a thin line. "Where is he?" he simply asked, his voice dripping with menace.

"He's already made up his mind."I pleaded, splaying my palms across his chest.

The vampire didn't waver in his resolve. Instead, he held me closer to him, moving to the door while carrying me in his arms. "Then I shall endeavor to change it."

"By doing what? Are you going to throttle him too? Set him on fire like you did with Johnathon?"

He froze immediately, a dumbstruck look on his face. "How do you kno

. I have long since made my peace with it."

"Time does not heal all things, Giovanni." I told him, pulling away to hold his face in my hands.

"Perhaps, " he whispered, rubbing my waist. The green flecks in his cerulean blue eyes swirled in mesmerizing patterns. "But that is not important. This auction, in a week's time-- what are we to do about this?"

"I don't know, " I replied honestly. I had tried not to think about it since my encounter with Armand. I had no real plan, no real way to approach the situation except for one real proposition to make..

"Armand wants you to be there. He is depending on you coming to buy me back. He thinks you won't disappoint him."

The handsome vampire chuckled dryly. "I will not. I intend to be there. You are mine, Teryn. No one can have you."

I gulped, trying to hide the blush. That bit of possessiveness on Giovanni's part always seemed to pull at an invisible tension inside of me: the tenuous fabric of my inner being that was so smitten with the very idea of the man in front of me.

That part of me hoped that he could reciprocate my budding feelings for him. Yet still, the more rational part of me was pulled to the forefront, focusing on what I needed from Giovanni the most at this point.

"I think its a trap, Giovanni but since you intend on being here, I need to ask one thing of you." I brushed a few silken strands of his blonde hair behind his ear.

"What would you have of me?" He leaned in to whisper.

"Promise me, that if you do nothing else, you find a way to get Melanie out of here."

"Teryn.." The indignation was smeared across his face. "You can not expect me to forfeit your well being; your safety."

"I'm not asking you to forfeit it. I just want you to adjust your strategy. Melanie is the priority. You have to buy her and you have to get her out."

He let go of me, climbing off of the bed to pace restlessly around the perimeter of the room with hands clasped behind his back. He was really a sight to behold. Even brimming with uneasiness and anxiety, he still managed to move about the room with ethereal grace. The suit was shaped to his muscular body perfectly and desire pooled within me.

"You are my informant. You are always the priority." He informed me.

"Not anymore." I breathed. "Please. Just do this one thing for me."

"You ask quite a lot of me, Teryn." He replied with a sigh, still pacing.

"Please." I continued to plead. I needed this. Knowing especially what I knew of Melanie's past, there was no better time. No one in greater need of freedom than that girl and I would ensure that she got it no matter what.

Moving with inhuman speed, Giovanni was in front of the bed again, his palms splayed flat on the sheets as he leaned close to me. "You ask quite a lot of me but never what you should request. Do you not understand that I would do anything for you? Yet you never ask for your freedom; always thinking of her. Have you absolutely no sense of self preservation?"

I could not help but smile at that. "I don't think so. But that's why you chose me, isn't it? Why would anyone in their right mind agree to help you with something like this; to risk their life everyday to get you the information you need?"

His answering smile was dazzling, and he reached out to caress my cheek. "I can think of quite a few reasons but...I will do this for you. I will do this and nothing more unless it involves protecting you. "

"Thank you, " I grinned, boldly kissing his cheek. "Now let us talk strategy then."
