*Hal*

"Ning! Ning!" I yelled, running toward the short cyan-haired girl as she walked back into the tunnel.

She turned around. Her eyes were tear stricken.

"How is An?"

"His pulse... it's as weak as the princess'."

I gulped. Why were my school teammates getting hurt left and right? It was a good thing that Xue's group hadn't advanced beyond the second round. Seeing Sarah and An get hurt was bad enough...

Despite An's best attempts, H.E.H. had managed to advance to the semi-finals. One of us had to stop them...

"B-brother, ou-our ma-match will begin soon," Dan said.

"I'll be there," I said. I took a deep breath. If it was our turn to go up against H.E.H. next, Dan was at risk. The best ones to battle them were Vita, Sloane, and I.

"Ning, please update me on his situation," I said.

"I will," she said, nodding. She choked back a cry. Was she afraid of seeing An in the state he was in? Was that why she hadn't caught up to the medics while Vermeil had?

Vermeil... how was she feeling at this time?

I took a deep breath. These games were supposed to be fun, a time to relax. Yet, that had stopped being the case...

Even before the games began, things had started on a bad note with Lei and Sarah both getting attacked. Then Alto got hurt that he had to be rushed into the hospital, followed by Sarah, and now An.

Those evolutionists were behind each one of those. But why would they go to the point of maiming during the games? Had they no idea that it would reflect badly on their nation? Did they wish to be seen as barbarians? Hmm, perhaps they did wish to be feared.

It was no secret that H.E.H. held a deep hatred of the empire, especially the Rios who founded it. So ruining their games wasn't out of left field.

"Bro-brother?" Dan asked.

"Sorry," I said, glancing up.

"He'll be fi-fine."

A smile overcame me. "I hope so."

Waiting for us in the now restored white tiled battlefield were three Torans. Two girls and one guy. Vita also waited for us.

"How is An doing?" Vita asked as soon as we stepped into the ring.

"He's... not doing well," I said, turning my eyes down to the pearly white floor.

"We can finish this fast then you can go see him," said a pink haired girl. Her eyes widened as soon as she saw Dan. "You're..."

Another one? Does she know Danmall?

"No... you're not him," she muttered. "But... I why do you look just like..."

"I-it's just like with that guy," Dan said, furrowing his brow.

"Who does Dan resemble?" Vita asked.

"A boy who is no longer alive," the pink haired girl said. "I didn't know him well, though." She narrowed her eyes at him. "You're an abysmal..."

Dan's eyes widened. "W-what?"

"You aren't from this realm, nor Wynaga. Not even Zionia."

I stepped in front of my big brother. "How could you tell?"

She chuckled. "That's a secret. Though if you win, I might tell you."

Grinning, I said,"Thanks for incentive, though we already planned on defeating you."

The girl laughed. Her pinkish-purple eyes glanced over at the announcer floating overhead.

"The third match of the third round of the International Tournament, begin!" he yelled.

I opened my eyes and looked around. We were outside the ring.

"What?" Vita said, gasping. "Did they just use time magic? But why didn't Dan's ability work?"

The pink haired girl stepped to the edge of the ring and smiled. "One abysmal isn't enough to stop our abilities. The one within Lei despite being far more powerful couldn't make him immune."

Right, she went against Lei. How did Wahkan defeat these monsters anyway? Then again, Wahkan has monsters of their own...

Dusting myself off, I rose to my feet. "Frankly they should ban time magic in

aist.

"Hold still, I'm going to wipe it off," she said, putting her cloth on my abdomen.

"Hey, gentler now."

"Sorry. This is all my fault."

I scoffed. "You think?"

Her turquoise drooped down.

"It's fine," I said, taking the cloth from her. "I've faced worse."

"Hal... why are you covered in scars?" she asked.

I quickly pulled down my shirt. "Don't look, perv," I said.

She stepped back. "Don't try to dodge the question. What happened?"

"My line of work is risky," I mumbled.

"Work? What kind of work do you do?"

"You know what we Hoinians are known for, right?"

"For being mercenaries..." Her eyes widened. "But you're only fourteen!"

I snickered. "I began young, had to as one of Hoinian's most talented ninja. My parents didn't want me too, but the government wouldn't have it. I fear they would hurt them if they continued to protest, so I obliged. One of my jobs was actually to kill Sarah..."

"W-what?"

I snickered. "I managed to get in rather far, before I was discovered. The guards nearly questioned me and after sometime they let me go... but the princess could see through the lies. Instead of giving me away, she asked me why I was doing with my life."

"What did you respond?" Yen asked, taking a seat beside me.

"I didn't. I didn't know what to say. Upon returning home, I began to question my life, my purpose. It was around that time that my parents found my big brother. Dan, he help me find some light in the darkness. My blood tainted hands didn't need to remain so."

She smiled. "They mean a lot, don't they?"

I crossed my hands together and nodded. "Of course. Yet... I'm losing them. An too... while I might've met him a few months ago, he's quickly become my best friend. He's like another brother. If I were stronger, I would've attempted killing Aida for what she did to Sarah before An even got a chance to battle her."

Arms wrapped around me.

My face warmed up. Why had she suddenly hugged me?

"Don't dirty your hands with her. One day she'll get what she deserves." She turned away. "Though I fear that Kun try to do it himself... Rage has overcome him like it did with An."

"Want me to talk to him?"

"I don't think he'll listen, but you can try."

Yeah, I doubted it would work... An wouldn't listen to Ning and Yanyu's warnings either...

Revenge, it never ended well. I knew that better than anyone...
