Olivia looked out the window struggling to ignore her Uncle who didn't seem to be able to take her smug eyes off her. He was waiting for her inside the carriage as she boarded. She tried hard to maintain her composure. She wasn't about to cry in front of him. She was not going to give him the satisfaction.

She rose from her bed at the break of dawn, covered Nicholas with her blanket and left to visit her mother's grave. She felt like she needed to see her, for she discovered a newfound respect for the woman she never got to meet. She couldn't imagine what her life would've been like before she married her father. How did she manage to grow up with such a cruel man she called her brother? She couldn't come close to imagine her suffering for having to live through so much for who knew how long.

She sat by her tombstone wiping the dirt off it with her hand. She said a small prayer and left. Once she arrived to her house, she found Maggie in her room.

"Maggie? Why are you packing my clothes?"

Maggie couldn't look at her in the eye. "Mr. Clark wishes to see you, miss."

Olivia nodded and made her way to her father's office which is where he spent every morning. She knocked on the door quietly. At no response, she let herself in. "You wanted to see me?"

"Yes." His father turned in his wheel chair and without preamble he asked, "How long were you going to hide your adulteration from me?"

Olivia's blood ran cold. "Who told you?"

"That is not of importance. Olivia, why did you do it and with your own uncle, no less, " he replied in disgust.

"He went into my room in the middle of the night—"

"I don't want to know the details, " he interrupted. "You will be sent to

y me and rekindle your relationship with your father, or don't marry me, and you lose your father because of your lack of morality."

Olivia took back her hand strongly and looked away. She couldn't marry the man she loathed so intensely. She just couldn't. She saw her father behind her eyelids, she could see the look in his eyes as he closed the door on her face. She couldn't lose her father, not when he needed her the most.

She opened her eyes and saw the busy streets of Boston, she wondered if it would be the last time she would see it. She blinked slowly as her mind shifted to the way Nicholas watched her as she attacked him blinded by frustration. She wished they could have met in different circumstances. If he hadn't arrived to marry Mary, and he hadn't known of her past, she wondered if she could've had a chance with him. She could still see his beautiful eyes, his handsome face. She remembered the way he held her as she cried so many times in his arms.

She hoped Mary treated him well. She hoped that after their wedding, she would be able to see him past his war scar and treasure him for who he truly was.
