Jane and Josie went into their rooms to change for dinner into their new acquired dresses. Nicholas sat on the front porch enthralled by the view of the farm. He had seen a fair amount of farms back in California, but this one was different and he wasn't quite sure the reason why.

"Why are you so quiet?" he heard his mother ask beside him. "What is it?"

"Nothing, mother, " he said quietly. "Well, this wedding..." he didn't know what he wanted to say. Did he not want to marry Mary Clark?

"Are you having second thoughts?"

"You could call it that, " he replied lowly.

"Oh honey, " she sat beside her son placing her hand on his shoulder. "If you are having doubts, you don't have to go through with it."

He nodded. "Shouldn't I love her?"

"Maybe you should. Some might say love comes with time. Do you like her?"

"I do. She's beautiful and a very lovely person, I suppose I'm just nervous."

"Of course you are, a wedding is not a small thing. Marriage is a colossal step, nerves are only natural. But if you like her, perhaps it's just more time that you need."

"Ah Nicholas! I was thinking about you."

Nicholas stood at the sound of Generals Clark's voice. Mrs. Gregson hurried and helped him with his wheelchair but he waved his hand letting her know he could do it without her aid. She smiled and entered the house quietly.

"How was your outing with my daughter?"

Nicholas pulled a rocking chair to sit by his side. "It was wonderful."

"Mary is such a special girl, she reminds me of her mother."

Nicholas watched him carefully wondering if he remembered he had a second daughter. "Yes, she's a great woman."

"That she is." He went quiet and watched the horizon as the sun was setting. Nicholas noticed he tends to go silent often. As if something stronger kept taking hold of his attention. Nicholas didn't want to ask what it was, because he already knew. The General Clark he knew was far g

exclaimed. "Me encantaria!"

"You're pronunciation is perfect, " he replied without mentioning the fact that he found her very beautiful as she spoke it with such enthusiasm.

She blushed. "Thank you, I practice it as often as I can."

"It shows. Your sister also mentioned you wish to visit Mexico in the future."

"Ah yes, I can only wish."

"Why Mexico, if I may ask."

Her eyes seem to brighten as she replied. "I don't know, I've always wanted to travel, but I had no idea where. So one day, I went to the library in town and I read about every country and Mexico just spoke to me. I don't know how to explain, its history and traditions are so interesting to me. Sounds silly, doesn't it?" she finished shyly.

"Not at all, " he replied truthfully.

"Pardon me."

They both turn toward the door and find Maggie. "Dinner is ready."

"Thank you Maggie, " replied Olivia.

"Shall we go?" asked Nicholas after a moment of silence.

Olivia nodded. "I thank you for your thoughtful gift, I'm sure it will help me very much."

Nicholas smiled. "You are very welcome and I stand by my offer. If you ever wish to practice your Spanish, ofresco mis servicios."

Olivia smiled. "Gracias senor Nicholas."

He smiled broadly, happy to be infirst name basis with Olivia once again.
