He slightly moved his head while slowly regaining consciousness. His eyebrows furrowed. Slowly and gently, he eventually opened his eyes feeling a little better than earlier. Earlier, the word rang in his head. He couldn't quite recall what happened. He was trying to get his signature on a few papers and everything suddenly went blank. The headache he felt was gone. It was weird but he felt much better. He tried to bring his hand up to touch his head when it felt a bit heavy and that's when he turned his head to her. He just realised he wasn't alone.

He took a look at her sleeping face wondering what exactly was going on. How did she get into his room and how come he's on his bed. He noticed his hand was held in hers. He told himself to retract his but somehow he just couldn't. Strangely, he liked it. It felt good. He stared a little bit more at her sleeping face before forcing himself to look away. He managed to gently get his hand away from hers while she flinched a bit turning her head to the other side. He got off the bed not wanting to wake her up. He felt a bit dizzy for a second as soon as he was standing on his own two feet but later, it became all better.

He took a look at the time on the clock and realised it had been well over three hours since he blanked out. His throat felt parched. He walked over to a small table in his room and poured himself a cup of water from the jug. He gulped down quickly. After he was done, he stood with no aim for a second before turning his head to her.

He walked up to her and squatted beside her, his arm resting on the bed and his head on his arm. His eyes glued to her sleeping face. He knew he needs to wake her up and make her leave but something about her being here just felt right. It just felt good and he didn't want it to end. Almost like he didn't want her to leave. She looked so peaceful and yet at the same time beautiful. He couldn't stop himself anymore from stretching out his right hand towards her face. Lightly, he stroked her curly black hair, something he had never done before. He wanted more and he knew it. Slowly, he brought his hand down to her face and stroked her cheek lightly. She moved her head a bit as a small smile grew on her lips. It brought a smile to his and made his heart race faster than usual that's when he knew something was definitely wrong with him. The feeling was maddening and at the same time beautiful. Why did her smile mean so much to him? He couldn't quite figure that out but he knew he was developing strange feelings for her. He was scared that she might have somehow managed to find her way to his heart. He knew he shouldn't feel this way. He wasn't allowed to and his destiny made that very clear. Feeling this way for her will only bring her problems. He has to maintain his distance. He has to continue being the cold and distant man he is. That's the safest thing he could do for her. This has to end and with that thought he drew closer to her before gently placing a light kiss on her forehead. She slightly moved once again with a smile on her face.

"Mr Hendrix." She lightly murmured to his surprise.

* * *

Slowly, she opened her eyes. They scanned the room till she finally realised she wasn't in her own home and immediately rose up her head. Her boss was nowhere to be seen. Immediately, she got up to her feet. She thought of the possibility that he might have woken up and left while she was still asleep. She knew she shouldn't have fallen asleep and now look what happened. As she walked down the staircase, she couldn't help wondering why he didn't just wake her up. Why leave her there all alone?

The first place she decided to check for him was where he collapsed earlier and just as she suspected, he was there. She stood by the entrance for a second staring at him scan the information on the papers while standing with a pen in his other hand. She took in a deep breath. He looked okay. There was colour to his face once again unlike earlier when he was just pale. She could feel the usual heartbeat once again and she assured herself that everything was okay. Gently, she took steps forward towards him.

"I don't think you should be up." She started as she walked in and he rose up his head at her voice without turning to her.

"The doctor said you needed much rest..."

"I'm fine." He interrupted her as he continued what he was doing.

She stood staring at him wondering if he was truly okay. She couldn't be sure of that without knowing his temperature and with that thought she reached out her hand to touch his forehead.

"You should..." She started with her hand stretched out towards him but then stopped as soon as he took a step backward away from her to avoid her touching him.

They stared at each other with her hand still hanging in the air. She felt a wave of disappointment wash over her but why was that so. His could she think everything was

h the cream in his coffee. It was just plain cream on top. He looked away like he didn't care.

There was a knock on the door and he asked the person to come in. The door opened and Sandy came rushing in.

"You need to know something Mr Hendrix." She stated looking a bit worried but Lucas didn't notice as he had his eyes glued to his laptop.

"What is it?" He asked a bit nonchalant.

Sandy sighed.

"Vivian Hendrix called for a meeting which is going on right now with all the board members without your permission." Sandy explained and Lucas immediately looked up to her.

"A meeting?" He asked surprised.

"Yes sir."

"Why wasn't I informed of that?" He asked before slowly shifting his eyes to Ema who looked just as surprise as ever.

She noticed the look in his eyes.

"I...I...I didn't know." She tried to defend herself but Lucas was already quickly up on his feet and walking towards the door.

Sandy quickly followed behind him and so did Ema, her heart racing faster than ever with fear.

Lucas pushed open the door into the room to find out that Sandy was right. Sandy and Ema stood behind close to the door.

"What is going on here?" He demanded as soon as he walked in. He didn't fail to notice his stepmother was aseat at where he usually had his seat.

They all turned to him.

"Lucas...it's nice of you to finally show up." Vivian spoke up with her usual smile.

"You've not answered my question. What is going on here?" Lucas asked once more as he took a look at all of them.

Vivian looked away from him to the board members in front of her.

"We're voting you out." She stated rather nonchalantly.

Ema and Sandy fell surprise as well.

Lucas furrowed his eyebrows before turning to her.

"What?" He managed to ask. He knew this was coming but not this early, not now.

"In fact...we already made our votes. Do you want to know the outcome... Do you stay or do you leave your position?" She asked as a mischievous smile grew on her face just as she looked up to him.

He stared at her a bit dumbfounded.

"You lost Lucas. You have to leave your position, your office. " Vivian declared still staring at him.

"You can't do that." Lucas stated between gritted teeth while staring at her.

"You can't do that." He stated once more as he turned to the rest.

"I have the highest shares in this company..."

"Used to...you used to have the highest shares in this company. Now...I do." She cut him through making him turn to her.

His heart raced faster as the fear he had once thought had disappeared, was back again.

This isn't happening.

"All those in favour of making Vivian Hendrix the new CEO of Hendrix enterprises should raise up their hands." Mr White suddenly declared and Lucas gently turned back to them.

Slowly, another person apart from Mr White rose up his hand and then another and another. Just like that, everyone's hand was up.

Lucas stared at them with his eyes a bit widened in shock. He couldn't believe what was happening.

A smirk grew at the corner of Vivian's lips as she turned to him.

"See? Lucas...you lose." She stared loving the look on his face.

He gulped down.
