Larson let go the mandible. The spider rammed its face into the wall, and Larson rolled on the ground before bringing the blade of his axe up above his head. The swing caught the spider just behind the head, where its thorax connected. It went down, so Larson crawled over it, hopped off its abdomen, and flying through the air, he swung his axe at the spider that had pinned Garrett.

The blow drew the spider's attention, letting the fencer off the ground. When the monster removed a leg from Garrett, it kicked Larson with another leg, leapt, and with heavy mass, sent the fighter into the wall. Larson clunked his head, dropped his axe, and slipped into unconsciousness.

"Son of a, " Garrett huffed.

With his rapier, he made several jabs, but that particular weapon was practically useless against those beasts, so he resorted to more fireballs. "I've got ya', laddie, " Seanessy howled and charged.

Having crushed all of the spiders on his end, there was only the one that Garrett was fighting. The mighty dwarf swung from side-to-side, sending gooey exoskeleton bouncing from walls to floors. In confusion, the spider jerked about, but was unable to fend off an attack from two ends. Garrett finally killed it with one last fireball that nearly made the thing's head explode.

"That scream, " Garrett said and took off, huffing, "see to Larson."

Seanessy peeked at the snoozing warrior. "He's fine."

Following Garrett, Seanessy rounded the cor

ty of warriors was sore from falling and fighting. Thirst and hunger were also setting in. Larson decided it was time for a break.

Digging through travel packs, Garrett pulled out a sort of steel jar, a canister with a top that actually screwed on. Larson eyed him. He pulled out a water canteen and some smoked meat.

"What, uh, " Larson trailed off. "What have you got there?"

Garrett sipped from his strange canister a moment, pulled it from his lips, and said, "Onion soup."

Larson winced to hide a sneer. He glanced over at the Dude, who was chowing down on an apple. The young man ate the whole thing, core, stem, and all.

"What is the matter with you?" Larson accosted.

"What, " the Dude asked, earnestly.

The warrior just shook his head, but then everyone cringed and moaned as an awful, putrid smell assaulted their nostrils; Seanessy was cooking his rat over a torch flame. "Pipe down, yas' faeries, " he laughed. "Rat's good fer' growin' hair."
