I watched from the bleachers as Dakota practiced the assigned football drills with a large number 8 facing towards me on the back of his red and black jersey. I smiled as I watched how hard he was pushing himself. Practice was over ten minutes ago but he insisted on staying. As soon as school started we tried out for the team. Dakota was immediately put on as quarterback, which came to no surprise to me.

I took off my helmet and took a gulp of my water. It's been a week since the party and Dakota hasn't said anything about it. Not even a hint of any sort. I'm glad he doesn't remember but at the same time it puts me on edge being the only one who can't forget. I'm trying to erase that night from my memory, occupying my mind with other distractions.

"Hi Luka." Gemma, my number one fan since I've started high school sat beside me. Her long dark hair flowed down the sides of her pale porcelain face. I guess you could say we're friends. We share a class together and unfortunately my new friend keeps making unwanted advances on me.

"Hey." I flashed her a smile.

"Hows practice?" She set her books down on the bleachers.

"I've already finished. Just waiting on Dakota. He likes to practice a little longer than everyone else." I looked over at him.

"You two are pretty close huh?" My heart dropped at those words and I arched my brow at her in fear that she somehow might know about that night.

"Yeah.. Why?" Can you be anymore suspicious, idiot.

"You're always together." She chuckled. I only nodded, unsure of what to say. Don't be nervous, I've just met this girl and I don't remember seeing her at the party. I'm the only one that knows. The only way that anyone else would know is if they were there at my house and seen the two of us.

"Anyway, I was thinking we should hang out after you're done here." She bit her lip a tad and touched my leg. Her slender fingers rubbed up to my thigh. I immediately jolted and moved away from her.

"Whoa, no." I shot up and chuckled nervously.

"Sorry Gemma but-"

"Hey, I'm done." Kota came up from behind me. His ash brown hair was drenched with sweat and his cheeks were rosy. My heart raced at the sight of him. It's been doing that a lot lately.

"Well I'll see you around Gemma." I smiled curtly and grabbed my duffle bag, thankful that Dakota interrupted us when he did. She pouted and let out a sigh as we walked past her. I don't want Gemma getting any ideas that I like her in that way. I just want to be friends and I can't lead her on or give her any kind of thought that I have feelings for her.

I have enough on my mind and I just want us to be friends. I guess that's impossible for the opposite sex at this school to be friends without some tension.

The sun was beginning to set on our journey home. I let the wind blow through my sweat drenched hair and couldn't wait to get home to shower. Downside of sports, you sweat, you smell, you have to shower.

"Who was that by the way? That girl earlier?" Dakota asked with an arched brow.

"Just a girl that I met in class."

"Are you dating her?"

"No, we're just.. friends? I guess." I chuckled and swung my duffle bag strap over my shoulder. My helmet in the other hand.

"Alright, keep your secrets." He smiled and nudged my arm.

"Whatever." I nudged him back. It's not like I don't already have enough secrets to keep.

"So there's a party tonight and we're going." Dakota said with a huge grin.

"Haven't you had enough of parties." I mumbled. After what happened with the last. Wait, you don't remember.

"Come on, it'll be fun. I won't black out this time I promise." He pleaded with his puppy dog look, both hands clutched together.

"Fine." I reluctantly agreed.

"Thank you! I'll tell my mom I'm staying over at your house tonight." He said and swung his arm over my shoulder. I only nodded. I desperately don't want to go to this party. But there's no saying no to Dakota. It's like his word his absolute. That or I'm just a big pushover.

Even though this was only our second party, I don't think I was cut out for it. I'm not as social as Dakota, I'm more

of a stay at home and play video games kind of person.

"I'll be over in a sec. I just need to shower." Dakota said as we neared my house and his which was right across from mine. We parted ways for now and I walked into the house, waiting to be bombarded with questions from my over protective mothers after she spotted one of the hickeys on my neck that weekend.

"How was school?" She was already waiting for me in the dining room, with a smile on her face.

"It was great." I said in a monotone voice as I took off my shoes.

"No girls were bothering you?" She walked over to me, looking at my neck. She smelled of old lady perfume.

"No mom." I rolled my eyes and started walking to my room, trying to get away from her as quick as possible.

"Good, good honey. How's Dakota?"

"He's actually coming-" The door bell rang cutting me off mid sentence and echoed throughout the house.

"That must be him!" She hurriedly walked over to the door to open it. I groaned internally. He should've went through my bedroom window. I mentally prepared myself for what was to come.

"Dakota, how nice to see you! My, my it's like you're growing everyday." She pulled him into a hug.

"Hi Mrs.De Angelis." He smiled and walked into the house with his duffle bag of clothes.

"How's football? Did you make quarterback yet? I bet you did." She pinched his cheeks with a huge smile. I rolled my eyes.

"Let's go." I nodded towards him and walked to my bedroom, slamming the door closed behind us.

"Don't sweat it, Luka." He nudged my arm and gave me a comforting smile.

If you haven't noticed, my mom enjoys having Dakota around. She has more hopes for him than she does for me, even if she doesn't admit it. It's obvious, anyone could tell. Most of the time I don't let it get to me. Dakota knows my mom likes him better than me. I don't even blame him, after all he is the golden child that any parent would want. If your parents met Dakota, they would love him instantly.

It's always been this way.

"I'm going to shower." I grabbed a towel and went into the bathroom. I turned on the water and put it as hot as my body could stand. The downside when Dakota comes over, having to feel this way after seeing how she treats him compared to me. I shook my head and tried to shake it off. It's best if I don't let myself get caught up into it.

I finished my shower and grabbed my towel, wrapping it around my waist. As I walked out the bathroom Dakota threw some clothes at me.

"What the hell?"

"Wear those, trust me. You'll look good in them." He smirked at me. My heart raced as I walked back into the washroom to change. If I want to forget that night, I need to stop going goo goo ga ga every time he looks at me a certain way. It was only after that night that with every look he gave made me feel tingly inside.

"Since when did you get shy about changing in front of me?" Dakota asked as I came out of the bathroom.

"What do you mean?" I chuckled, pretending not to know. Maybe it was since you stuck your tongue in my mouth.

"Never mind, lets hit the road." He got up from my bed.

"It's only 6." I said looking at my clock that sat on my night stand.

"Yeah..about that, the party is in the Platz." He gave me a half smile and scratched his head.

"The Platz!? That's almost an hour and a half away from here. You're joking right? How will we get there? Matter of fact, how will we get back?"

"Luka, you're overthinking this. We can bus it there and catch a ride with someone on the way back." He put his hands on my shoulders and smiled like he had just come up with the most brilliant plan in the world.

"Fine." I rubbed the bridge of my nose. I gave in once again.

"But if my mom finds out, it's on you." I said as I opened my window.

"Fine with me." He said as he climbed out first.

"And I sure as hell won't be dragging your ass back to the house for a second time, so if you pass out you're screwed." I chuckled and climbed out after him.

"This night is going to be great." Dakota said as we walked towards the bus stop.
