“Only a woman would say that. The way I figure it, a ruined

shoe is better then no left foot.”

“Roselynne!” her mother ran down the hall, her father was

following behind.

“You did it girl!” he commended her with a grin. While her

mother hugged her, her dad turned to Drek, “Not bad kid. Not

bad at all.” He admired.

Drek grinned, “Thanks sir! Its been a pleasure working with

Roselynne.”

They heard a groan. “Drek…” a voice whispered.

Drek turned, “Captain?”

“I want you to give her my job.” He gasped, his skin was

turning an odd purple/black color.

“Sir?” Drek asked worried.

“Rose. New… Cap…tain…” he dies then, his eyes still wide

open staring at Drek. A strained look was on his face.

Drek was horrified. “What happened to him.” He dropped to

his knees to feel his pulse, though it was obvious he was

dead. He reached out and closed Webb“s eyes. “Rose. What did

you give him?” he demanded almost angrily.

“Calm down, son.” Dem admonished. “It was nothing she did.”

“Then what-“

“Effects of the moon.” Dem whispered, “There was nothing yo

Mi“cio accepted its first woman Captain with grace. Webb’s

cemented boot was left where it was as a physical monument.

A year later, I married Drek.

As I look back on that year and all the worrying I did, I

remember something I once heard my mother say, “You can’t

change the past. But you can ruin the present by worrying

about the future.” I was so wrapped up in my own troubled

world, worrying about growing up, that it almost wrecked

everybodys future. I still worry sometimes, but I try to keep in

mind what a philosopher once said:

“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease

worrying about things which are beyond the power of our

will.”
