"Bliss, I'm going out for a bit. I should be home in time for supper." Aunt Belle said as she pinned on her hat.

Bliss looked up from the potatoes she was peeling. "It's not like you to go out just before meal-time. Is something wrong, Auntie?"

"No. No. Just some important business I have to see to. Don't worry about it. I'll be back soon, Dear." Belle hurried out of the house before Bliss could ask anything more.

Bliss shook her head even as she smiled. Aunt Belle certainly was a character. Even so, the lady did get into trouble like she was a youngster. The only difference was she didn't get in trouble for it. Bliss frowned as she thought about her aunt's last venture. "I hope she doesn't get into too much trouble." She worried. She rose from the table and removed her loaves of bread from the oven. She placed them on the stove top, pleased with their golden brown appearance. Oh dear, what was her crazy aunt up to now? Bliss knew she would have no peace of mind until she knew.

----

One hand holding the hat to her head, the other hand holding the reins, Aunt Belle rode her horse across the fields leading to Jude's house. She found Jude in the barn doing the evening milking.

Completely unbothered, Belle dismounted and walked into the barn. "Jude my boy. We have to talk."

Jude looked up surprise crossing his face. "Belle. What can I do for you?" He stood and turned so he as facing his visitor.

"I've come

he could get hurt."

"Right now she's at home peeling potatoes. She could get hurt if she isn't careful. She could get hurt at any moment, boy. She could be run over by a wagon as she's leaving the house. Indians. Rattlers. Disease. Heartbreak. You're not protecting her, Jude. Staying away from her

Will hurt her." Belle stood from the bench and brushed the wrinkles from her skirt. "I learned a long while ago that life isn't certain. You need to take chances. You might not have more then today."

Without a further word, Aunt Belle left the barn. Mounted her horse and rode home.
