"Let me see if this is right, you're offering to buy out Hope's contract with me?"

"That's what I'm offering. If you're willing, just figure out what losing her would cost you. I'll pay it, in exchange for Hope and her freedom." Dom raised his glass to his lips and swallowed the last of the amber liquid. He hoped this would work. It all depended on if this man was a mercenary or if he had an actual attachment to the girl. Either way, when Dom left town he was taking Hope with him. It didn't matter much to him if they left in broad daylight or snuck off in the night. He just figured he oughta try the easy way first.

"Well now. I just don't know. Seems to me that Hope was one of the girls that helped clean things up too."

"We'll add that cost in too." Dom said rather impatiently. "Only remember that she nearly lost her life at your wonderful establishment. If she happened to run across a lawyer she could probably sue you for your whole business."

"Now just hold on. There's no need to drag them people into this. Besides you'd probably have to ride to one of the big cities just to find one of them fellas."

"Then you'd best play fair."

"I'll tell you what, Hope is getting kinda old anyways. You give me two hundred dollars and you can have her lock, stock, and barrel."

"Meet me here in half hour and I'll have your money." Dom stood. "And Hank. Don't try anything funny. I'm not adverse to involving the law."

Hank only nodded at the man towering over him. It was easier to talk the giant when he was sitting down.

Dom left the building without another word.

"What is the hold up?" Drake hissed at his valet.

"I'll find out." The valet scrambled out of the carriage and away from his angry

hough.

-----

The valet hurried back to his master. He brought two horses with him. "Sir!" He called out when he was near enough to see Drake impatiently pacing near the broken carriage. "They had no carriages." He gasped as he slid to a stop before his master. A small part of him took delight in the fact that Drake flinched when the horse stopped before him. "We can get there faster on horseback anyway. You'll have to leave your trunk behind."

"Leave my trunk." Drake growled. "I need everything in that trunk."

"It won't fit on the horse." His valet stated the obvious.

Fifteen minutes later saw Drake A. Ridry riding awkwardly on a temperamental bay.

The valet fought hard to keep the grin from his face. Truth be told, the village had plenty of available carriages.
