Bliss watched the fascinating man as he studied the large maple door. The man was tall and muscular, but maple was known to be a sturdy wood. He couldn't break down that door without causing himself harm. Bliss watched as he mentally walked through his options, she hoped he would pass over the one that centered on breaking down the door. Doors were strong for a reason: you were either keeping something out or keeping something in. And they worked quite well at their task. Bliss sighed. 'Now I am thinking on the merits of doors, ' She thought with a touch of irritability. She had been tied to that chair for far too long. Being in a stranger's house was bad. Make that stranger a man and it was worse. But being tied to that strange man's chair for hours did not make one the most friendly creature. Even so, Bliss knew nothing about this man. Did he have a temper? Did he drink? How often did he deal with women? Was he upset by her presence?

'Well, that is a ridiculous question you stupid girl!' Bliss thought. 'Of course he was upset with her being here. Perhaps he could just break a window.' Bliss turned to study the recently cleaned glass. No doubt he would brake the door before shattering the window panes. It was very rare that a house or store had actual windows. Very expensive, as well.

"What is your name?"

Jude turned toward the soft sweet voice that was filling his parlor. This was not the kind of house that such a lady should be in. This house was only wood and emptiness. She deserved silk gowns and pearls. Marble steps and chandeliers. 'You could give her that.' Wait! Where did that thought come from? Jude shook his head ain an attempt to clear his mind. He was more tired then he thought. 'Or perhaps it's the lack of supper.' He thought. Jude met Bliss' sweet brown eyes and studied them, gathering all he could about her character. She had a sweet compassionate side, though flames of fire could be seen in their dark depth. She was a fighter. She did not let circumstances or people bring her down. She was sweet. She was strong. His gaze drifted once more over the scandalous outfit she wore. She was all woman. A small grin tipped th

he dug around searching for food. "My intention was to feed you. Not make a slave of you. I've got to have something around here. " He mumbled as he continued his search for food. "Aha!" He withdrew his hand and straightened. He turned to Bliss with a grin on his face. "I have discovered your supper."

Still grinning, Jude sauntered over to where Bliss sat at the table. "Your supper, milady." Then he dropped a mouse- still very much alive- directly on the table in front of her. See? He did have food in his house.

Bliss watched as the mouse quickly scampered away only to fall off that table. Truly? Did this man truly expect that a little mouse would frighten her? Of course, she never would have eaten a mouse, but the sight of a live mouse was hardly enough to send her into a fit of nerves. She looked up at him, a small smile slowly appearing, her brown eyes twinkling merrily. "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I am not afraid of mice. And I am still waiting for my supper."

The large man stood before her looking surprised and perhaps a bit... disappointed?
